do i have an egr valve??
i have a 2001 4runner and have seen a few posts about removal of the egr valve due to what i dumps into the intake but i tried to look for it and i just cant seem to find it unless it is crammed in between the back of the engine and the firewall. i did locate a hose that entered the intake that had the tube walls coated in crap but i traced it down it the back of the valves?? i am looking for it not for permanent removal but i want to take it off and clean it to further preserve my engine (not that it'll die soon.. Its a Yota..) but i just hit 130,000 and finished a complete tune up (except for plugwires, how could i have forgot that??? ) and dont want raw dirty exhaust junk being sucked into my clean intake.. thanks in advance, ETRNL

You may never find it, EGR valve that is. What you did find was the PCV, or positive crankcase ventilation. Which is usually gonna get pretty dirty, definetly needs cleaned or replaced. It may be a hollow tube type, easy to clean, or a one-way valve design. One way to find out if your vehicle is equiped with one or not would maybe be to ask a Toyota dealership, or Toyota certified mech., how much to service or replace the EGR valve. They get paid to, at least, listen to a dumb question or 2 once in a while, which it's not if you feel so.
Edit: you can take MTL 4runners' word for it, was typing response, oops too late.
