Thats because Toyota built that motor with boost in mind. Same thing with the 2003-2004 SVT Mustang Cobra, its supercharged from Ford, and people are making over 600RWHP on the stock motor.

Yeah, the 302 rods are decently strong, but the pistons arnt as strong, plus its just a general good idea to upgrade.

How many extra things do you need to buy to really make it run correctly (or is the supercharger alone enough)? Does it hurt the motor any to pull trailers?

I'm very seriously thinking about buying a 1998-ish 4Runner and immediately supercharging it. It would be used mostly as a daily driver, occasionally tow a trailer up to 4000# and of course occasionally be taken offroad.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

reliability theory says more parts or components in a system = reduced reliability. one of the biggest reasons why i didnt s/c since i drive over 500 miles a week.

My comment was in response to Dudebud about running serious amounts of boost on stock internals. But if you want to beat a dead horse, we can do that too.
