Angry Disable the VSC

Ok so far I have found Zip about doing this... but hillbilly aparenty tried... here is a question then...

If (so far) I can't disable VSC.... If I got a say, ARB Air Locker in back, is that going to solve the problem? Or will the VSC still kick in?

I mean sure it might lock, but if the VSC kicks in like it did this past weekend, its going to suck.... i mean no power to the wheels at all, so even the locker wouldnt help...

(Still Looking for a fix for this)

Hillbilly, you haven't given up have you?

Um, look in your manual. Lock the center diff to disable it.

If you get dual ARB's, there will be no wheel spin and the TRAC system will not have a reason to engage. If you only got one locker, the front will still do its thing.

VSC is a totally different ballgame than the ATRAC.

Hold on...

VSC controls the Antilocks and ATRAC controls the throttle right?

So i want to disable the ATRAC.....

-Hillbilly- you took out your TRC MTR relay?

So confused and annoyed at the same time... shoulda got a 00 =)

Sequoia Notes that might apply: (or at least this can hold my notes for me until i can print it out later)

<snip>

In addition to the added traction of four-wheel drive, the Sequoia also boasts both a standard Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) system (unavailable on either of its competitors) and an active traction control system known as A-TRAC on four-wheel-drive models and simply TRAC on two-wheel-drive models.

The VSC system is intended to maintain vehicle control while cornering by comparing steering input with the actual path of the vehicle. If it senses too much variation between the two, the system will automatically reduce engine output and apply individual brakes to restore control.

The A-TRAC system makes use of the same wheel sensors as the VSC system, but instead monitors wheel slippage only and selectively applies individual brakes to maintain proper traction. The TRAC system on two-wheel-drive models works in the same manner, but is applied to the rear wheels only. Two-wheel-drive models also have the option of switching off the TRAC system for uninterrupted power in soft sand or similar surfaces.

They both make use of the ABS, but it is the VSC that has the dethrottling issue. Push the button when off-road.

You wouldn't want to disable the TRAC off-road as that is the only thing standing between you and conventional open diffs.

Question ...

First of all.....

Ok now with that done... is this pretty much a non-issue... ?

The only time the engine cutting off power would be an issue is in 2wd? so in 4WD and center locked, It shouldnt have the same effect?

Maybe looking at my notes I think i wanted to be able to spin my back wheels without interference in 2wd... but a locker would take care of this....

Is there a "locker mod" for center diffs to have it on in 2wd?

Correct.

Yes

I think the easiest solution would be to pull whatever it is that controlls the VSC (it's the only thing I hate about my 4Runner). I don't believe the specific "fix" has been mentioned here, but I think it came up about a year ago on 4x4wire. Although, I really can't remember for sure if anyone actually did it. I'm not sure if it is just more than removing the fuse or what is all involved. Maybe I'll search there again.

Nope. Didn't see anyone who actually did it or what you would need to do. I thought that was the case.
