I want to put a CB radio under my head unit, where would I look for one?

I fit my Cobra DX19III right under my Kenwood Deck...It isn't a perfect fit, there is acually space. But what I did was buy one of those plastic "storage compartements" that fits under the stereo, it has a folding door, and I modified it so the door closes and cb is out of sight. PM me if you would like pictures!

I did the cobra as well. I know this picture sucks but I can't find the larger one. It was pretty straight forward. Check out Jacksonpt's web site has some pics of his install there.

sorry I'm a total newbie to CB's Could I use the AUX imput on my Alpine head unit to use the stereo as the CB's speaker? I'm trying to limit clutter in the truck, so not needing another speaker would be great.

also, do they make police scanner/CB radios? I DIN sized scanner/cb wouldbe cool, but not a must.

I don't know the answers to your questions, but I do know that if you went with the Cobra model shown above, the built-in speaker is quite loud and you wouldn't need to use any auxiliary ones.

I need a little more flexability in a radio so in the next couple of weeks I will be installing a Midland 79 290. I will post pics after it's done. It should fit and look nice AM USB/LSB detachable face. Man I can't wait. I have the radio just haven't had the time. No PA output though but I'll live.

and i don't need no wussy 4' antenna...102" steel whip for me

Does anyone have the adapter to hook up your stereo and CB to the stock antenna. I saw one in the JC Whitney catalog for 15-20 bucks. It has a light on it so you can tune in your antenna. Are these worth a crap? I would like to keep the appearance of not having expensive electronics in my truck.

If I remember correctly most people say it's crap. I'll see if I can find any threads on that.

Dang, hard to search when CB doesn't meet search requirements...

EDIT:
You know, you can always place the mount in a semi-discreet area and keep the antenna out of sight in the back or something.

Has anyone ever found a real good place to mount a CB antenna on your 4Runner?

I don't like the hood mount. I have been wondering if you could adapt a trunk lid mount to the rear hatch edge. Or possibly have one that mounts on the top roof rack and you could fold it down when you are in a parking garage or don't want it seen.

Ideas? Thoughts?

Bob (Bob_98SR5) had a channel mount that he tweaked to get a nice set up in the back. I'll see if I can find the thread.

EDIT:
okay, here's the thread BUT the pic links seem to be dead

Why don't you try giving Bob a PM, I'm sure he's got the pics somewhere.

Hey..I found a real nice Firestick that mimics a Cell phone antenna. It is a through the roof mount, 14 inches tall with a ball mount.

It is the Model: DS14-FG (Cell lookalike)
You can find it on their website.

PURPOSE: The DS14-FG 'No ground plane" (NGP) CB antenna kit was specifically designed to solve the lack of ground plane (counterpoise) problems found on vehicles constructed of plastic, fiberglass, wood or aluminum. This includes, but is not limited to, motorhomes, boats, automobiles and 18-wheeler trucks. Ground plane problems typically show up in the form of high standing wave ratio (SWR) and poor performance. The isolated ground plane that is built into this kit will also eliminate problems on metal base vehicles that lack the sufficient ground plane for proper operation. This could be due to the size of available ground plane (ATV, bicycle, motorcycle, wheelchair, etc.), or because the operator chooses to mount the antenna in a location that is unable too properly take advantage of available ground plane. The DS14-FG kit has an adjustable base so you can mount it on the roof, trunk, top of fender or on side of a vehicle with up to 70 degrees of tilt from vertical. This is the perfect kit for motorhome roofs, the roof of a pick-up camper or cap, the trunk deck of a Corvette, or the roof of a fiberglass or aluminum 18-wheeler tractor. The installed height above roofline is a mere 13.5" (343mm).
I figure I will mount it behind the roof rack right in front of the hatch. Should look pretty nice there.

Try a "Ham" radio store. They have a mount that will hook onto the lip of the rear hatch. Try this link http://www.texastowers.com/index.htm go to the "Diamond" page, then mobile antenna mount, then to K-400 series. You would need a SO-239 mount. Not for the "macho" 102" but will work for shorter antennas.
