Coolant Temperature Sensor on 98 3.4l

Hi, My check engine light popped on this weekend and it happens to be the coolant temperature sensor. Autozone had it in stock so I picked it up. I went to replace it, but it appears that you have to remove the fuel rail on the left side of the engine to get to it. I don't really want to do this because it always seems like when you remove those you are replacing o-rings to get the danged things to seal again. Does anybody know of any other way to get to it with out having to remove the fuel rail. Is driving with a faulty temperature sensor messing up anything. The temperature sender is still alright, so I know that I am not overheating. Thanks in advance.

Josh

Does it show cold or hot?

If it shows cold, the ECU may not allow the tranny to go into lockup on the highway.
If that is the case, you should go ahead and do the replacement.
