Well, I finally ordered my Converter from etrailer. I had the cheap converter and was just going to wire it in but decided to order a new one and use the other for my van.

Install went pretty smooth except for 2 things:

1 - The hole that the old wire went through and out to the trailer was not large enough so I had to mod the hole - no biggie

2 - I installed the converter on the same side (left) as the old one. When I hooked my trailer up, the blinkers on the trailer were reversed. I suppose this tells me that maybe I should have hooked the converter up on the right side.

As I have thown away all instructions and evidence, can anyone chime in on what they did.

I am rectifying this problem by modding the trailer wires for now. This will not help if I pull another trailer, however.

I dunno, I have a Toyota OEM converter.

You could cut the plug in the back of your vehicle, reinstall a new plug, but swap positions with the left and right signal wires.

Yup - actually I have enough room and wire under there just to splice it on that side instead of the trailer. I juat have to figure out if it is actually the converter that is attached ont he wrong side or if the trailer was wired wrong.

Hopefully, the wiring used on both the truck and the trailer is colored in the conventional manner:

White Brown Yellow Green < ------- in this order on each plug

Where white is the ground.

Yellow is the left turn signal

Green is the right turn signal

So this should tell you if the trailer is wired correctly.

Of great help in these circumstances is a cheap 12v circuit tester, the kind with a pointy probe with a lamp that lights up and a lead with an alligator clip out the other end. Attach the clip to a nice shiny ground and stick the probe in the wire in question. (Easy to get poked, so be careful) Get a friend to turn on and off the signals in the truck and watch what the test lamp does.
