What brand of paint are you planning on using?

Imperial Jade Mica is the official name. That's the dark green '98-'05 4Runners. It's a popular color, any decent paint place should be able to find it without specific code, as it's difficult to mess up because that is the only shade of green available for the 4Runner as far as I know.

3rd Generations prior to 1999 had a color called Evergreen Pearl. 1999 and later models had a color called Imperial Jade Mica. I don't know the codes on either of them, but as stated before, anywhere that sells touch-up paint will have that information on hand.

There is more than one shade Imperial Jade Mica there might be over 10 shades of that color better to bring the gas tank door with you to the paint store

As switchback corrected Jade Mica was the only 99+ green, and Evergreen the only 98- green. Where are all the shades coming from?

there are lots of shades for code 6Q7. Im talking about shades and not colors some are darker or lighter than others. that is why i suggested that he bring the gas tank door with him so they can match it up closer. switch back is right but i do believe that lexas had Jade Mica before 99. I could be wrong about that .

But what causes the difference in shades? I'm asking because I'll need to mail order some parts in the future, and they can be prepainted.

toyota makes different shades all car manufacters do it. what causes it is just different formulas. if you have a paint supply store near you take your runner there and they can use this paint matching gun and get the excact formula for you color they charge around here like $25 to do it but its worth it if you dont want to do a blend.
