Coilovers VS OME -> Cost:Performance

Hey all,

I'm having trouble deciding whether the CO's would be worth the extra $300. I know the ride/performance would be marginally better than the OME setup, but is it really $300 worth better?

Well, here goes:

Front: (cant decide between these)
-Toytec CO's - $700
-SAW 2.0's - $675
-OME 881/882 w/ Billy 5100 shocks. -$420

Rear: (am I missing anything?)
-Procomp 9000 rear extended length shocks
-Brake extension valve
-Ext brake line
-2" shackle
-**MAYBE** - Alcan AAL (for a little more lift) - I like the raked look

My real dilemma is whether or not to spend the $300 extra on the CO's VS an OME setup. I wheel occasionally, but would like excellent performance when I do. This is mostly an on-road (some dirt/potholed trails) work truck that I like to play with :p

I'm assuming that most people will say "get the CO's they're better" and I know they're better. I'm a college student with LIMITED funds looking to find the best solution for my needs. Would I need the added benefits of a Coilover over an OME/Billy setup?

I appreciate any help anyone can give me :xpimp:

I would go to http://www.sonoransteel.com/store_co..._liftkits.html and get the bilstein / tundra spring for the front, and go alcan in the rear.

I would go with coilovers in the front, they are so much easier to install than the ome set up. It just take out the old and slap in the new, no messing with spring compressors or anything dangerous like that, and you can adjust the ride height to what you want. Those two things made me want to get CO's.

I love mine, they ride a lot better than stock.

I would get the Adjustable 5100 Bilstein and just use the stock coils for the front. I would use the 2" shackle in the rear. Get Skyjacker shocks for the rear. I have that setup on my 2004 and it works just fine. Get the adjustable 5100 Bilstein from ebay or Wheelers Off Road and get the Skyjackers from Rocky MountainSuspensions. You will save money an be satisfied.

I just installed billy 5100 (set at 0) in the ome 881's.
Rented a spring compressor from local tool rental place $12. I added the 1/2 spacer and hope to end up with a 3" lift.
I also installed pro comp upper a arms. Man they are tuff looking. We'll see how they hold up. They aren't adjustable so I hope the geometry is perfect.
I just installed add a leaf in the rear but because the u bolts were too hard to get apart I just cut them off. Now I'm waiting on new u bolts from toytec. Not expensive but a pain to wait for.

I recommend getting the new top strut bushing kit. It's cheap from toytec.
Everything is going together pretty smoothly so far.
I got a free rental from the parts store of a ball joint press.
The only way to get the ball joint seat out of the spindle.
Pics coming soon.
Can't wait for new shoes.
Hoping there is room for 285 75 16. /33's
