So I am trying to get by check engine light to go off and I check the codes and the only one left is 43 which is stated in the book as "starter signal" and the trouble areas listed are IG switch, IG sensor, and ECU. I don't know what any of that stuff is. I have done everything tune up wise in the last 10,000 miles including cap/rotor, spark plugs, wires, baterie, O2 sensor, gas temp sensor, and timing chain. Please help me get that light turned off!

ha ha, yea I have been ignoring it for the whole two years I have owned my 4runner. Now I want to make my 4runner run as good as posible and getting that light off seems like part of the process. I have heard your milage decreases when the light is on although I am getting 19 to 21 mpg right now!

Is is a recurring error? In other words, have you tried to reset the code?

Mine turned out to be the signal generator(pickup coil) in the distibutor. Couldn't find just the part on it's own or a good used one so ended up having to buy a whole new distributor. It's a place to look anyways. Test the lead coming off the distributor with an ohm meter. i don't remember the specs right off the top of my head but I'll look around for them.

Hmm, this ohm meter stuff is new to me. I was thouroughly confused reading the manual. How much was the distrubuter? What else could it be?
