I have an 03 Tacoma with the Clutch Start Cancel Button..What are the practical uses for this..I used it once just to see if it worked and it did, but I had it in neutral so not to buck around.. Do you use yours..?

I use mine if I want to start the truck or crank it without getting in (handy for valve adjustments and if you're just starting it to warm it up). Also, if you're on a hill and have trouble working a clutch you can use it for that (just start in gear).

i use the starter in my fj40 to bump it over rocks and such, it works great. It is there so that you wont try to slip the clutch to make it over something also some times you can only for forward and have no room to roll backwards. You could make to with out it if you had a hand throttle. Oh and the starter is a gear reduction unit and will hardly know that it is moving the truck.

It's to start the truck with it in gear, useful when you are on steep unstable surfaces. Prevents the roll back and flying gravel of a normal start.

And like amgraham said it's useful for starting without climbing in the truck. I used to use mine in winter, saved climbing in to start and then getting out to scrape the windows.

Why does the light stay on the whole time the trucks running? I also use mine for the winter startups, but that illumination of the button gets annoying

i have it too .. can i put the 4runner in first and start the car with out my foot on the clutch and take off like an automatic tranny?...no way?

Yeah but it probably won't be very smooth. Like Ian said it can save you some clutch slip in rough situations.

BTW - I think pretty much all the 84 up manual Toyota trucks have them. I can't remember if my 83 has it.. I don't think it does.

What it is ment for is to move the car when there is a problem with your engine or your distributer has gotten wet. For example you are crossing a shallow river and your distributer gets wet and there is obviously no way it will dry out in the water. You put it in gear and use the battery to move the vehicle the rest of the way....

It is like trying to start a manual car without pressing the clutch. The car will lurch forward in an unpleasant manner but if you keep holding the ignition it will just crawl forward. I use it all the time because i'm too lazy to push in the clutch. I just don't start it in gear. I have it in neutral
and then start it using the button.

Sit on a steep hill when the engine stalls and try to get going again. THAT's what it's for!

I just use the E-Brake trick for that..It works for me without getting whiplash..

when using the starter to get you going up a hill, once youve gotten going, then give it a little gas as you release the key from the starter position

cool, i just tried it in the first gear. the truck didnt lurch forward as much i thought it would. just hold the ignition and it starts right up and you are on your way.

The E-brake doesn't always hold. Trust me, if you do enough wheeling, you find yourself at a crazy angle, with your adrenaline rushing, stalled out and the last thing you'll want to do is take that truck out of gear.

The light stays on because the clutch cancel function stays active until the ignition is turned off.

When my 88 pickup's main coil wire fell off in the road and I stalled out, I used it to crank the engine over and creep it up into a parking lot.

My clutch safety switch stopped working, so I used it for a whole week while I got a new one from the dealer.
