Well, I wish I had a picture of this one...
This bracket is found attached to the firewall, and holds the clutch and brake assemblies in a not-so-rigid arrangement. Mine cracked from the lower middle to the upper left corner. The result being that the 'throw' of the clutch is too short to disengage for shifting.
I spoke with the parts dept. and they advised this small metal plate comes to $300 CDN. and that they had EIGHT of these units in stock.Keep in mind, this is a part that should NEVER fail. All it does is sit on the firewall and hold the pedals in place. However, it seems to be prone to flexing, from shifting and braking, I suppose.

Anyway, my question...anyone on the forum ever cracked this assembly? I hear the Tundra's and the T100's are also prone to this.
Also, can it be welded, or do I really have to take ALLLLL those parts off, in order to replace it?

I'd source a replacement bracket from a wrecker and swap it over.
It shouldn't take you too long to swap it over.
From memory you need to disconnect the clutch/brake pedals from the linkages, remove the clutch cylinder bolts, brake cylinder bolts, plus a single bolt just for the bracket and that should about do it.
You can either swap the pedals over or just swap in the new bracket with pedals and all.



All of this said I'd be rather worried if an important part like this has failed!

T100's were notorious for similar problems and Toyota came out with some sort of a brace as a remedy. See if you can find some info on that brace and see if it will work with your pedal.

My bro's 2nd gen Runner developed a crack too and had to be welded up.

Just an update...I got mine welded. The break seems to be common and it's a PITA to remove it all. Does yours run corner to corner?

I'm not sure how mine is cracked, but I'm gonna find out when they romove it; the way I know it's cracked is 'cuz a toyota tech looked and said that was the problem.

I already ordered a new bracket so when they take out the old one I'll try to get it welded and then perhaps sell it.

My '91 2nd gen's broke away from the firewall too last summer, cant remember but I think the bolts holding it just gave up and disappeared in the process, nothing could be got to refasten it so I had it welded up to the firewall, then the master and slave cyls went and so it went on and on and on and now its fine....

I went away found out more, bought the parts and did it myself .... beautiful.

New master cylinder and new slave cylinder and that is it. Master was a bit pricey but slave is very cheap. Every gearchange was a push or pull before but since I changed them, things have been nice and smooth.

I changed the plastic bushing on the bottom of the gear lever too and its very rare now that she slips out of 1st when I'm movin off
Only wish I could stop her slipping out of 5th every now and then though, maybe only once or twice a week though.

If you need a little help on the cylinders I wrote up what I did somewhere pics and all...

Thanks Jackpot2. My slave was replaced and the master was good, but I still have a clash going from first to reverse. even after full stops, etc...

i have the same problem; putting it into fourth right before putting it into reverse seems to fix the problem.

so my 91 4runner bracket broke but I cant seem to find the 2 bolts by the clutch pedal running through the firewall that holds it on, can anyone point me in the right direction
