Clarification pleas:)
Ok so let me get this straight, my rear third member with detroit trac loc from my 96 v6 4runner, will fit my 1980 front or rear axle housing?
Now do I sell it or do save it for my project truck?

Yes, it will bolt right up to either the front or rear diff of your '80. However, Trac Loc? Never heard of that one. If you possibly mean Tru-Track (LSD), then it won't work right when installed in a front end (unless it was originally for a front and thus not working correctly in the rear of your 4Runner). Tru-Tracks are front/rear specific and have different part numbers. Now if you mean any other Detroit diff, they will work front or rear with no issues.

Non e-locker tacos have 8.4" difs, not 8" difs.
