Child seat

I got the bolt kit for installation of a child seat in my 2000 4R. Only contains bolt and spacers. Seems I need some sort of clip to attach the rear strap. Do these clips come with child seat? I didn't see any with seats I looked at.

Did you order or receive the following items "CRS 04731-22012, Bolt 91511-60830 > 90080-10249"

If so then you probably need the "Top Tether Bracket Kit (bracket, bolt, spacer) - 73709-12010"

As a side note, all 1999 model year 4Runners are equipped to accept top tether child seats. They are pre drilled and tapped for the top tether bolt already. A little known fact as the Top Tether rule went into effect September 1, 1999, which is after 1999 production ceased.

What I got is labeled CRS Kit 04731-22012. Sounds like I need the Top Tether Bracket Kit 73709-12010. I just asked for what was called out in the owners manual.

Thanks for the info. I'll go to the dealer and look at the Bracket Kit.

Grandchildren are arriving, one this month, another due in May. Will make three total, must get my truck ready to haul them around! Much has changed in the childs car seat world since mine were little.

You can say that again.
My X & I use to just duct tape them in the back seat

Gongrats on the new arrivals coming soon.
Gosh, I am old enough now to be a grandparent.
Where is the time going?

I thought I would revive this thread now that I installed the top tether bracket kit this weekend. Many people do not know that Toyota pre drilled and tapped two top tether bracket mounts on the pre 2000 model year 4Runners. I know for a fact that they did it on the 1999 models and have a feeling they are there on older 3rd gens as well. A forward facing child seat used from 20lbs to 80 lbs can be made a lot safer with the use of a top tether stap. Some more info and pics are on my Additions 1 page.

Tethering

I have mine tethered to the tie down rings that were already in the cargo area as the tethers were long enough to reach the one closest to the rear hatch easily, as the other one seemed a bit too close and was at too steep an angle it seemed to do much good. I don't have them in the car all the time, so I can just pop it on and off when need be and didn't have to make any more holes or buy anymore parts.

I would also recommend getting a product (I can't remember the name) that acts like a locking clip and a come-a-long all in one. It ratchets the child seat down SUPER DUPER tight after just simply fastening the seat belt. You don't have to sit on the seat or fight with it, just ratchet that puppy down. You can find them at Walmart or Babys R Us, just about anywhere child car seats are sold. They cost like $15, but make putting a child car seat in and out a breeze. Since we have (2) in child seats and grandparent close by, it makes the swapping a piece of cake and easy to do correctly.

Here is a link I found to the product I am talking about.

Anyone know if my 1996 would be predrilled and tapped for the tether bolt?

Does anyone know if there's a way to get three child seats in the back of a 98 4Runner Limited? We just had a set of twin girls and if a third one ever decides to come along, I want to make sure I don't have to get rid of my truck.

I am pretty sure you could do 3 across using the seatbelts or installing a LATCH system like I am now in another thread. Do 3 seats actually fit in the back of the 4runner? That seems like it would be the only limitation.

My friends are having triplets and they went with a Suburban because it's one of the only vehicles that comes with a bench seat that will physically fit 3 carseats across. It sounds like there may have been one or two others, but they were full sized like the Excursion.

I was looking at my owners manual again about a month ago and low and behold my 1992 ext-cab pickup has the mounting points pre drilled & tapped into the backwall of the cab. They have 2 plastic hole plugs covering them. Who would have thought about that in '92?
