check engine light
hello
My bf has a 97 tacoma 2.7. We replaced the sparg plugs, wires and coil packs and the truck idles very low...almost to the point where it will stall. when he diagnoses the truck it says misfire on cylinder 3. He had the cylinder pressure tested and came up with nothing. This has been an ongoing project to figure out what is wrong with his truck, no one seems to know even the garages. He hasnt brought his truck to a toyota dealership as of yet..too expensive. What could be making his truck idle so low?

Could be that the IAC (Idle Air Control) is stuck, when he starts it after it has been sitting long enough to cool off, does it idle fast for a few minutes then slow down after it warms up? or if he has a/c does it kick up the idle when he turns it on? if the idle responds to either of these tests, then its not the IAC but could be some other type of air metering problem, like a MAF that is starting to go bad. i hope this helps you out, its kind of hard to diagnose engine problems over the Internet Oh, and the possible reason that it is throwing the #3 misfire code is that the idle is so low that it could be making the engine shake enough to make the ECU think that the cyl. is misfiring

I know that this is a stupid question but i am not mechanically inclined...what is a MAF?.. Ive talked to some people and they say it could be a bad injector. Anyways thanx for the advice

"...came up with nothing? As in zero pressure or no problems? I suppose it could be an injector, try swapping the injector with one of the other cylinders and see if things change. As someone else stated, could it be the TPS (throttle position sensor)... or equivalent (I'm not up on the toyota lingo yet). If this is bad and it causes the truck to almost die, I could see where it would throw a "cylinder X" code. Should be a way to measure resistance on those to see if they're within specification... anyone have any ideas?"
when he had the cylinder tested they found that there is no problem with it
