cheap mans lift

ok...so browsing through my local autozone, i saw some kits...blocks, add-a-leafs, and..universal shackles! for 15$! now, i already asked about putting block up front and got a resounding NO.....so what about putting the lift shackles up front, and blocks in back? still a no? the shackles can go up to a 3" lift, so...

autozone shackles no

i would not recomend the auto zone shackless they are probably just the flateplates rite? the real off road shackles you buy are made of 3/8 plate for the sides and have a piece conecting the 2 like a H. the other ones will bend when you go off road or even going around a corner. you can get a set of 4 of the offroad ones for $100 and it makes your truck sit 2 inches higher. the lift blocks from there are aluminum and they brake real easy and are not tapered for your drive shaft angle get the ones from a offroad shop they are made off cast iron and are tapered. i have some on my 82 4x4 for a couple of years with no problems.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AGAISNT lift blocks! You are blessed to have a straight axle in the front!!!

straight axles are cheap to lift, well cheaper than ifs.
go get downey 3" lift springs. only $150 for the rear, and probably $150 for the front. i had blocks on mine in the rear when i first got my truck... and when i rode in the desert and rocks, it rode like ˟˟˟˟˟.... i just thought thats how it was supposed to ride. when i got my downey 3" in the rear and extended shackels... OMG... it rode like a dream the next time i took it out! seriously, not exagerating,.... 100%better! NIGTH and DAY! if you want to go longer shackles, downey recommended against it if you get the lift springs because it will sac out quicker... but i did it anyways... extra travel and lift.

better to get the springs now... than to get the blocks, and hate them, then get the springs!

go get the springs. you WONT regret it!

btw the shackles were $40. ill send pics later

Everywhere I have read, blocks are very unsafe.

Many companies including All Pro have a new kit designed for the older solid axle Toys to raise them up and make them better.

Also talk to Crash on the forum here.
He can tell you what to run front & rear that will raise it and make it ride better.

If I were you i'd leave the blocks alone. Longer shackles and adding a leaf or two to the spring packs seems to be a cheap setup that works well.

You can't lift very far before you get to figure out new steering configurations and shock legnths.

Here is a good example of an '85 that has aftermarket leafs on it, and shackles.

Looks very nice to me.

On Downey's latest price sheet, their entire straight axle lift kit package is only $275 + shocks. Not sure how much money you are trying to save, but it doesn't get much cheaper, or better engineered then one of their complete packages.

New leaves front and back plus a ton of other finicky hardware to make everything perfect. Another $150 for new shocks and you can be lifted 2-3" safely and well.

That's what i'll be doing next year.
