Can anyone give any info on oil change on the 4.0 V6?
This is my first Toyota and I do my own oil changes.
Is the oil drain plug behind the pop off cover on skid plate?
What size socket?
Is the amount of oil needed 5.5 Qts as manual states?
Level on dipstick when I bought is about 1/4 inch above
the top indicator. This seem right?
I always like to fill my filter before installing, but this one is upside down. what's up with that?
How many grease zerts if any?
2003 4Runner SR5 V6

I have the V8. The drain plug on mine is behind the knock-out on the skid plate. On the V8 you have to undo 4 bolts and the whole front skid plate swings down to access the oil filter. Not sure on the V6. Oil capacity on the V8 is 6.5 quarts, so 5.5 for V6 doesn't see unreasonable. This spec is published in the operators manual. It should tell you there for sure.

As for grease zerks, I don't recall seeing any. Everything on the Toyota should be sealed, so that should be one less thing to do!

My dipstick was slightly over the full line. This is okay, as long as your not adding an extra quart or anything. It shouldn't do any damage. My tranmission dipstick always is over the full line???

Yup 5.5 is the right amount and the only grease fitting I could find on my V8 AWD is the front drive shaft which you should grease every 5k if yours is 4WD you should have one just look if you can't see it, it is probably spun around on top out of sight.

If you have done your own changes just slide under and do it, 1st one is a learning curve after that it should be cake

You can also spray the bushing with grease if you want.

I have the V8 also, but the one zerk escaped me. Where is it on the front drive shaft?

edit: Im back and wouldn't you guess it the zerk was on the other side the grease fitting in on the end of the shaft right before the transfer case, at least that is where I felt it, I now need to wash my clothes, wet floor made it hard

just take an ice pick and pop a hole in the bottom of the oil pan and let it drain. find a field or somewhere so you don't dirty up a good clean oil drip pan. then use a small rubber stopper to plug the hole. leave the original filter in because, what the h3ll, it's already broken in. then just fill up with new oil. next time, you just pull the rubber stopper. now tools needed. this was just a joke by the way.

hey, EDGE, is there only one fitting? or is there one on each end? you got me thinking now and my wife has her car at work, and I'm at my work so I can't look. will do tonight though!
