Changed the interior illumination last night...
I used to own a 2003 Tacoma and let me tell you, the green lighting in the 4Runner sucks compared to the orange in the Tacoma.
Well last night I was installing my Blackbird interface and I figured as long as I had the dash off, I would try to do something about the lighting. I have a bunch of colored diffusers laying around so I decided to try red first. I'm going to go with it for a while and if it gets old, I'll switch to orange. I still need to get a red filter for the clock and get another red diffuser for the ring around the cigarette lighter.
Sorry for the picture quality, I should have grabbed my tripod.
This is soooo much easier on the eyes at night!

Please let us know what you figure out on the clock. That and a couple of switches are all I have left to change over. I've been running the red instrument lighting for over a year and wouldn't go back.
Fo_SheeZy, on mine I just got a regular bulb and wrapped it in that red repair tape for taillights and stuff.

looks good...same thing i did to my 98 4runner over a year ago, but for the HVAC controls, i simply put in brighter, clear bulbs, and when they're on, it really does look orange...

For the cluster on the earlier ones (I dunno about the later ones) it uses 194 bulbs so you can just get red ones of those at Napa or something. The tape I just used on the HVAC cluster because it uses a little tiny bulb and I didn't even want to bother finding a colored bulb for that. The tape you can get at Napa, Advance, etc.

Thanks guys, for those that have pulled out the lights to investigate know that it's only a colored diffuser that covers a clear lamp. I used the following link to source the covers I needed to make the change.

I picked up the red filter material yesterday and hope to get to the clock again this weekend. Pics to follow...
