Center Dash 96-02 dash?

Ok anther question. I have a 96 runner and I just bought the center dash section to replace my 96 one. But there are a few issue's the vents don't line up and the switches are in differnt places.

I also got the e-brake section so I can have a real cup holder.

Anyone done this swap? what should I expect.

Tank,

You probably bought the 99-02 center dash console. They are different from the 96-98 center dash consoles.

I have an extra 98 console. Also, as the 'inventor' of the cupholder mod, I can give you some good tips on performing this mod (see http://www.4runners.org/articles/cupholder)

Hmmm....my birthday is coming up in Feb...maybe we can work something out.

Check your PM.

This makes me curious! COULD the dash piece be changed too? That would be awesome...I could nearly fully convert my 1997 to a 2002!!

Tank..lol..

That was a awesome write up thanks! I think instead of pointing the e-brake to the right I will pull it out and weld a extension to move it too the right. But that's some good info!

Any idea's on the center dash piece?

Going to check PM's

I wasn't worried about the switches cause I was gonna leave them in the cubby hole in the center counsil after I make a place for it. Or I can run the wires up to the center. The big thing is the vents but I think some cutting and or messing with it I can get it too work.

We have a in dash TV and my wife keeps leaving the cup holder open and the tV slams into it. keeps strippen out the gears so I want to take her cup holder away..lol

Not sure what you mean here, but if youre saying what i think youre saying, it cant be done b/c the ebrake handle has the ebrake cable running through it. bending it will prevent it from working (tried that ... hee hee).

The easiest way is to buy all the parts including the ebrake assembly and the rear silver bracket.

Hmm. What if I cut and moved the whole thing to the right?

I would need to look at it. I just want it too look as factory as possible.

Jason,

If you're talking about moving the entire tub to the right, well I'm sure you can, but the area that the tub sits on is not really wide enough to do that.

Its just best to follow my original write up or simply buy the 99 ebrake assembly and the silver bracket. That will make it a perfect factory fit.

Allot can be done with a torch and a welder

Thanks for your write up. it helped me decide how I'm going to do it. We might be able to work something out like what you talked about in your P-mail. E-mail me jason@demello-offroad.com
