CB Radio & Antenna...Finally!

Finally I have it installed and tuned the way I want it (channel 1 is about 1.5:1 and channel 40 is 1.3:1). As previously mentioned, I will never use a magnetic-mounted antenna again. No more scratches on the paint on my roof!

So I got around to installing the radio and disconnectable antenna. Antenna's on the driver-side fender, CB under the passenger side of the dash. The 18' cable is through my firewall and under the floor boards. I basically ran it from one side of the car around the back of the front seats and around. Perfect length and only 6" or so of the cable is visible, seen from the rear seat.

This is the CB mount, easily removable with wiring harness and plastic knob screws:

This is a pic with the antenna mounted on:

And this is a pic with the antenna disconnected:

P.S. There's a new weekly info article on my site now regarding differentials and what they do. Posted on 14 July 02.

Hboss looking good man! I want to put a CB in mine but they run on different frequencies and you have to have a license to operate it!!! This place never ceases to amaze me. Someday when I get my Runner back to the good ol US of A I'll get one installed.

Looks good Al.
I think the fender mount will work out much better for you than the mag mount you had.

I use to have my mic dangling down like that. It was not in the way of a passenger though like you might think, but a pain to get to.

Here is what I ended up doing.
I went to the 'Shack, and got a new mic clip that used screws or sticky back tape.
I used the tape method on my console, and the mic is right at my fingertips to get to it easier.

Wow, looks cool! Nice and neat. I am not into CBs or anything, but are they all that small. Like I said, I am not too familiar with them, but that is awfully small! My scanner is like that size, but mine is probably smaller than 90% of the scanners out there! Goodjob though! :fireman:

Yes sir, I'm a happy camper now. And my Bilstein's should be here today or tomorrow <grin>.

Not all CB's are this small Btown. It's probably the least expensive one on the market, but I wanted it for for its small size. Easy to put in before a road trip and easy to take out when you get home.

I spent more on the antenna than I did on the CB, but the antenna is the much more important part from all I've read/been told.

Actually, I spent nothing on the CB myself. That was my great b-day present from my tech team at work.

You're right HBoss, The antenna IS the most importnat part. ANY radio on the market comes with only about 4 watts, so if your antenna is a good one, then your radio will do just fine. Ya done good!

Corey: I'll probably look for another place to mount the mic. For now, I tend to pull it off the base and lie it in my center console box, under the parking brake.

mytruck: I am using a Radio Shack compact CB radio Model 21-1703

And a MaxRad antenna. I don't recall which model off-hand but it looks like this (the one on the left):
