CB ideas needed

I did some searching and didn't find anything definitive so I need y'alls help. I have a 96 4Runner and I'm wanting to put a CB in it somewhere. I've considered removing the CD player and putting it there but if so which units fit in there snugly? Did you have to run an external speaker also? I don't want to bolt something to the side of the console, I could remove the ashtray and put a small one there but I haven't seen any around. I had one in my 98 Tacoma that fit very nicely but can't remember the brand. Any help is greatly appreciated and if you can post a pic or two and the model you have.
Thanks
Jason

Why dont you put the cb in the glove box? Or put in in the center console.

I bought a cobra CB model 75 that has got all the controls mounted in the hand mike. I was able to mount the unit remotely in my center console, than I just unscrew the Mike and hide it when not in use. I like it because it doesn't give the tweakers an idea they will get $5 for it.

I got the same one, with the unit mounted under the radio behind the tim. Very clean install, almost invisible when the mike is disconnected.

Well I carry a Springfield XD-9 with me and I usually keep in the glove box, I need the center console for my "stuff" so that's out. I do like the idea of the handheld one though. Thanks guys.

Wait, that Cobra...the set up looks so simple! Is it really just the mic and the small box? How is the sound quality? Terminator, how is the Springfield treating you? I've been looking into the .45 XD.

I just put that same one in my 4runner. Easy install then agin I had someone help em with the wiring.

Depending on what antenna you get pickup a 90 degree bend from radio hack, so the radio will sit flush.

Yep, mic and box. At night you can just take the mic in the house and no one would know,.....besides the antenna you have on your truck

From what I've read on here, everyone's liked it. I believe Brian (WabFab) has one as well and it also has a speaker on the small box.

I've been hunting on Ebay for a good price on one, while continually listing it on Xmas and Bday wish lists to no avail

Nice! The weather is turning nice in good ol' Upstate NY and I think this will be my first install of year. Hell, my birthday is coming up soon too! Things keep looking up!

I have this one: http://www.midlandradio.com/comersus...idProduct=3108
The battery compartment comes off and there is a cigarette lighter adapter kit that hooks onto the bottom for power and external antenna (I use a mag mount). Then I use a mic clip that fits onto the heater/AC vent. The whole thing is portable so I can move it from vehicle to vehicle. Range is not so good with using as a portable with rubber duck antenna, but good enough at events when everyone is close.

I love my XD, feels great in my hand and I've had no issues at all.

That setup with the CB under the headunit is what I want to accomplish.

here is a link to ^ that one! Im still tempted to get it. That one has the weather channels that i think would come in handy some times, but the only thing i wish it had was a Pa function, i think that would be a great thing to encourage buddies to do stupid stuff, and then you can yell at the old farts who cut you off! lol

http://www.amazon.com/Cobra-18-WX-ST...241169&sr=8-11

So its either that one or a $40 dollar one with the pa function that i would mount in my ashtray area, but i like my coin holder.
Still debating the pa vs the cobra with the weather channels.
