car wont start - stuck at work :(

sup everyone! its 7:50pm and im still at work! AHHHH! waiting for the tow truck to come.

so heres the deal.... i come out of work to go home, and i start the car.... nothing... the radio turns on, and so dose the dash and all... and when i try to start, it makes a click... everytime i try to turn it over.... ive had this problem before.... usually the battery connections get really dirty.... so i went to clean them off... with whatever tools i had (they are all at home, some good they do there!!! ) i put it back together.... still nothing! so i think its the jerry rig connection i made a few months back, from the fuse block to the batter...i re-splice.... same thing! ack! could it still be the cables? or the connections? they are still a bit dirty. i dont have a wire brush with me.

some of my co workers thought it was the battery... so we tried to jump start....nada.....

starter problems?

neinput?

thanks!

Sounds like a starter to me, if its not turning over at all but you've got juice to accessories, so its not a battery thing. Its a standard, so can't you bump start it?

if you hear a click but it doesn't turn over, your starter contacts are bad. you can either file them or get new ones for pretty cheap. it's an easy fix

Maybe starter.

Take a long handle screw driver and hammer. tap the starter lightly over and over while trying to start. if its the starter theres a 50/50 chance it will start. worked for me in the past.

I think its a case of the starter internal solinoid freezing up. I think when you tap the solinoid it un-freezes it allowing it to engage when you turn the ignition switch. That is my mind set when I actually think how it might work.

This a Toyota?

The click you hear is the solenoid plunger "plunging". The problem is the contacts the plunger is meant to contact to supply the starter motor with electrical current are worn.

You need starter contacts.

If you attempt to start it over and over, you will eventaully get it to start. Ill almost guarantee it if this is the first time this has happened.

I could be wrong but I think you are talking about the starter relay! I have had to replace mine.

**rotting in office all night**

haha just kidding!
yeh i made it home. i got home to post a reply but when i finished typing, it froze, i and i lost my long post. hahaha. so i didnt feel like writing it again. awh you guys cares so much for lil ole meeeh! hehe

ok so heres what happened. so it wouldnt start. so the tow truck came and he wouldnt tow it home for me coz it was "too high" (non-flat bed) . so he said he'd get it started for me. he was totally cooz and he had a few 4x4s too (suburban and k5)he tried to jump it, nothing. so he tapped the starter, and i tried to start it, it struggled, and voila! vroom vroom!

so i drove home. i went out that night and it started fine. i left for work this morn, and it started fine! so i go to the market on the way to work. i get to my car, start it.... NADA! .... but not the same as yesterday!. no clicks... nada... the radio turned on.... and when i tried to start it.... it'd make this "tick tick tick tick tick tick" (fast paced) noise...... not like the clicking yesterday.... the radio turned on... after a few attempts.... when id turn it to the 1st position on the ignition, the buzzer would go, but when i turned to the 2nd postion, the buzzer light died out... "buzzzblaaaahhhhhh" and the dash lights went dim. i tried to turn on the head lights... and it made a "fuzzing buzz noise"

so i figure its the battery now! yeh?

so i called to see how much they were, and they had a opt yellow for $109.. good deal? i could get that ( my dream) or get a normal batt for $50... since im strapped for cash. i think ill just get the optima.

i hope that that is all of my probs... just a battery... sigh...

thanks for all your guys help and input. thats why i love yotatech!

YOTATECH RULES!

Definitely not the battery- a jump start from the tow truck would have worked. Sounds like the starter to me.

I had the same problem with an old firebird. Used a broomstick to give it a good whack.

Where is the starter in out rides?

You know you can always push start it also when the starter is shot...I push-started my 4runner for two weeks before I had the money for the starter (yes they are cheap, but I am poor ) I work next to a bar, so I'd get all the old drunks to help me push it
