can anybody post a pic of a 3.0 crankshaft...please!

i need a pic of the end where the harmonic balancer slides on the keyway on a 3.0 engine because of this...

2 days ago while pulling in my driveway, all hell broke loose. i shut the motor down, and discovered that the crankshaft bolt was laying on the skidplate, and the balancer and pulleys were about 3/4" foreward. after tearing it down, it looks like the keyway sheared off, because it ends right after the timing belt gear.

is there just one keyway that both the timing belt gear and the harmonic balancer slide onto? the balancer and crank have spun without the keyway, making it hard to tell where the grove is.

there is no full link grove on the end of the crankshaft on the 3.0 just a key for the crank timing gear and just a little bit left out so the harmonic balancer is on there right. Just put the balancer back on and tighten up not sure but i think its a 100 or more pounds of torque

181ft lbs of torque is required and becuase im clinically insane and like to overdo things I put on some blue locktite...

Wait a minute!! How did you get the #3 timing cover off without pulling the fan idler/timig cover #2?

when the balancer came off, it pretty much wiped out the lower
timing cover, so it just popped off.

thats crazy that the balancer only had that little bit of keyway to grab. why does the balancer have a full length groove if it only slides on the keyway 1/4" or so?

Im thinking you may want to tear off all of the pulleys and belts to get down to the timing belt and inspect the timing belt for damage and everything else.... I also think your crank gear on the timing belt may have moved forward with the crank coming off....

There is also a keyed, flared washer that goes in front of that gear to hold the timing belt on....dont forget to find/replace it.

You should start tearing off the front of that engine to expose the timing belt and you might as well change it while you are in there. You need to get the crank timing belt gear off the crank nose to get a good look at what damage has actually been done. The crank is probably ok but you may need to reshape the keyway a bit to make sure a new key fits properly. Also be sure to find or replace the timing belt alignment washer (as was mentioned) so the new belt doesn't chew the timing cover to pieces on startup.

I do highly suggest some loctite when you retorque the bolt again too.
.....I use it on any critical area such as a crank bolt or brake calipers (it is just smart to do).
