Exclamation Calling all TOYOTA ECU experts

right here is my problem, as many already know i have a 3.4L from an automatic 97 2wd 4runner and i want to drop it in my 5 speed 91 4wd 4runner.
I have read on many forums that you can just trick the PNS(park/neutral switch) into thinking your in neutral. Which would work but at the same time make things worse because i also read that the ECU tells the EFI how much fuel to push through for each gear.

And not to mention it's 2WD...so i have other issues to deal with!

So the help i need is this:

Can i take the 5 speed and 4WD mother boards/wires and wire them up to the 97 ECU? or do i have to flat out buy the 4WD/5 speed harness and ECU??????
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i found this on a VW site, i know it is different but the idea is the same. Does anyone know how to accomplish it?

ECM from a manual vehicle. The auto ECM will work with a few wires jumped. (jump pins 1-3 and 4-6, then you can unplug the TCM under the back seat)

Or will i still have the same problem as i stated above?

found this at a Acura site:

If you're good with soldering, just find the page in the forums that shows the one resistor that needs to be removed and you're golden. I took mine from my auto GS, cut out the transmission daughterboard, and removed the resistor. Voila, it's now a manual ECU.

Guy that is doing my wiring just told me to get any 3.4L wiring harness and he would make it work since he has factory wiring diagrams.

I have a 3.4L w/ 5spd tranny and the ECM so that might make a difference.

I'm sure someone has crossed this bridge before.

1) The pin locations are very different between a MT and a AT ECU. So thats going to give you a head ache to start with.
2) If you just need to get it started then all you need to due is run the PNS circuit for your 97 ECU through your clutch switch on your rig. The circuit is the same just a different input depending on if you have AT or MT. This will get the engine running but I can't say how it will run.
3) The ECU does nothing with changing your fuel mixture based on what gear your tranny is in. Fuel mixture is all based off of throttle input, MAF, Coolant temp, and O2 sensor readings.
4) There's also a few inputs to the ECU that tells if your in 4wd or 2wd.
5) Just looking at the EWD I can't see how the ECU tells in the vehicle in in gear of park/neutral. This could cuase idle problems if you plan on using a auto ECU with your MT.

I think you need to be a little more specific about what your going to do. Obviously your going to use the 5VZ engine but what about your tranny? Are you planning on using your current MT and drivetrain or using the 97 AT and converting over to 4wd?
List out what you've got now and what you want the end result to be and you may get some more responces.
If you want a copy of the 97 wiring diagram PM me with your email and I can send it to you.

I am planning on keeping my MT yes

Can i still use 4WD????? cause it is stick shift, not electronic, but i do know that the ADD stuff and 4WD indicators will cause problems.

And what is that you say about having to use the CSC switch to start the rig? hows that?

PM sent

I think i may just end up have to fork out for a manual ECU/harness cause i can see the Auto ECU causing my a lot of problems i dont need.

Ok, so i think i have to buy the ECU that i need

but i would like to know if i can simply re-pin my 4WD wires from the 3.0 and re-pin them into the 3.4 ECU? is it that simple? cause i know i can get the tranny problem overlooked with the PNS bypassed until i can afford the proper ecu/harness.
