Buying speakers

I need help guys i been all over the place and no one seems to help me with my 95 4runner lmited 3VZE.

Im looking to buy 2 12" subs with a bandpass box, a 800w mono AMP and everything needed.

One thing i cant find is a high output alternator, wheres the best place to look for one of these without breaking my bank. Most of the ones i have seen cost 200+ and thts almost near the price of the sub, amp, box im buying.

ANy help would be apreciated and should i go with sound dampning material?

I would suggest going with a cap (capacitor) instead. A cap takes the strain off of the battery during idles and hard hits. I ran two 10" kickers in my '91 3.0, and with the addition of the cap, the dimming lights dissappeared. The dampening material is up to you. My system hit pretty hard, and the only bad 'noise' that i noticed was from the little door on the sunroof 'screw'.
Good Luck with the system!

first off, there's a lot of debate about caps and alts. my take is that a HO alt would be helpful, but not necessary. i'm pushing 500w to speakers and 500w to subs and i have a 1farad cap and i'm fine (do get occasional alt whine in summer with AC on).

if you want to be careful (i will when the money shows up!), high alts can be found at mralternator.com as an example, or excessiveamperage.com .

on a sidenote -- i'd maybe suggest staying away from a bandpass box. i mean, get what you think sounds good, but i can't stand the way they sound (quality-wise) i think a sealed or vented box would sound better...

sound dampening material -- i did it in my runner...but don't buy into brand names. check out mcmaster.com for their high-temp mastic (use on horizontal surfaces) and their dampening compound (for doors). price wise- you'll save fi˟˟˟˟lls for the same materials that dynamat uses (mcmaster just doesn't put a logo on theirs). let me know if you need more info, and sorry for the long reply!

alright then, would buying a cap and a HO amp be the best way to go?

Im not gonna stop at subs, i plan on buying better speakers when I get the money. Probably replace all the speakers in the car.

hmm. if you're thinking about adding speakers, then i might consider adding an upgraded alt. here's a situation:

i tried to upgrade my subs to kicker l7 10s. total output of my system went from 1000w to 1500w. It pulled so much on my alt, that it shut my amps down. what you should really do is learn to calculate how many watts you'll be pulling, peak. then compare that to your alt. I think the stock alt's in 4runners are like 90 amps.

I think you'll find that you'll need to upgrade the alt to really get a high performance system. I've hit a ceiling, i had to return my kickers (which bumped down what my one amp was pulling), until i upgrade my alt.

good luck!
