building a new motor

does anyone know if you need new head bolts for a 22RE when you are putting it back together? i checked arp website and they had nothing even listed for the 22RE... thanks for the help!

i'd definitely go with new ones. however, if you're not doing anything too major(race engine, high boost turbo) the ones from the dealer are perfectly fine

Head bolts definately need to be replaced, from what I understand once they are torqued once they are done. You could switch to head studs which are reuseable but it is not necesary, more of an upgrade. There is some good info on lc engineering's website on bolts vs. studs in the tech section.

the motor is kinda insane so i am trying to do something good... thanks for the lc engineering reference!

If the motor is "kinda insane", better go with the ARP studs. Bolts don't do all that well with a stock motor. Remember to torque the head using the specs for the studs and not the bolts. The studs are torqued a lot higher. You can trust me on this one

thanks so much for the info... i called lc and got studs plus that fancy radiator and flex a lite fan
