So I recently got new Tokico Trek Masters and Dueler A/T Revo II's installed, and all was great. Shortly after, I noticed a leak around the wheels on the rear axle, the left was worse than the right. I searched, and the symptoms pointed towards a rear axle seals leaking. I was pretty sure this was the problem...there's no way my shocks are leaking. But under further inspection, it turns out both rear shocks are leaking...the left is completely blown. I bought the shocks locally at AJUSA, so I'm now waiting for my Tokico warranty claim.




These shocks are less than a month old. Do you think they're defective, or damaged from the install? Would worn springs cause them to blow this fast? My old shocks weren't leaking at all, but needed replacing.

I noticed that there are different part numbers for the struts between 2wd and 4wd, but the rear shocks are the same. What's the difference? Are 4wd struts longer? I want to buy 99 4wd coils all around, but am not sure if they would fit the 2wd struts. I know this topic has been covered many times, but I've searched, and couldn't find the answer for the 99 coils with 2wd struts.

Oh, I also wanted to ask about my tire wear. Does it look like my tires are wearing less on the outside edges?

get bilstiens next time - tokico's suck, your treads contact patch is just how it should be - centerlined.

tokicos are fine. stock shocks are tokicos and we all get billions of miles out of them.
you must of got some lemons or something.

odd that the 2wd struts are differnt. you plan on doing much off roading? if so theres better options then the toks for lifted offroad use

you need to be carefull when you install the shocks to not spin the rod that moves in and out of the shock. Sometimes, its not with all shock and struts.. it can damage the seals around the rod. I've seen it happen before.

Thanks, everyone. So it turns out that the exposed shafts were marred during installation at Sears...d'oh! I bought a new set, and got them to pay for the shocks, as well as refund me installation charges. My car is currently waiting on a lift for the new rear shocks.

So no one knows if the 99 4wd coils will fit the 2wd tokico struts? If not, I guess i'm gonna go with the original 2wd coils from toyota. If anything, I'd want to stay about the same height, or only a minor lift. Not much offroading for me. I can't go that far with 2wd and no locker.

the 4wd coils wont fit the 2wd struts, the 2wd struts are shorter than 4wd struts. If you went 4wd coils and 4wd struts.. thats a diff deal.

That sucks....should've went with the 4wd struts. It's weird how the rears are the same, though.

2WD and 4WD same stuff in the back, same shocks.
2WD and 4WD different stuff in the front, different struts.
