I already did a search and it did not really answer my question....

Is it normal for me to hit the brakes, and the pedal goes down, kind of soft (but it still stops the truck), then let go and hit it again then it is much firmer?

Sometimes I try this and it is not fully stopped and you can feel the added braking power of letting go of the brakes.. is this not what ABS was supposed to stop? :pat:

I think you're feeling the brake booster building up pressure as you pump the brake, which is entirely normal (I think?)...

That could be a common symptom of miss-adjusted rear brakes. What may be happening is the first pump of the pedal takes some travel to take up the play in the rear shoes, and if the second pump follows immediately, the rears haven't had enough time to fully retract and engage much quicker. You probably just need the rear brakes adjusted.

Adjusting the rear brakes seems to help pedal fade so long as the rest of the brake system is OK

could it possibly be your brake master cylinder going?? I remember my mechanic telling me when i replaced my brakes on my car that my master cylinder looked like it was going (at the time i had NO clue what the heck he was talking about...so it was like "oh...really?") and he had said if i ever lost pressure in my brakes to pump the brakes to restore pressure in the system. This is prolly a long shot but you never know...my $.02 might be those last $.02 to make a loonie (canadian humour).

I took it in and they said that it was fine. I do not totally believe them though.

what exactly flushing brake do? would pedal become firmer?
