I assume you're replacing the 22RE with a 22R? If so, it should be a direct swap.
Just out of curiosity, why would you go to a carb'd engine rather than EFI?

As far as I know (and Im no expert) the 22r and 22re are essentially the same engine. The only difference being the later re's are fuel injected. If you have the injection set-up, you should be golden.

Instead of redoing your electronics, just swap out the intakes so the "new" motor is EFI as well.
Any motor from 85-95 in longblock form is basically identical.
Only real difference is wether or not it has the fuel pump ring for the carb on the end of the camshaft and the oil pan and pickup tube (which determines what vehicle it goes in, 2wd, 4wd or 85 celica).
I took a motor out of an 85 celica (EFI), swapped oil pans and pickup tubes, changed the intake and dropped it in my 2wd truck. Runs like it's supposed to be there.

22r and 22re the same
todd e is rite the 85-95 toyoya 4cyl. long block are all the same. just take the carb and intake off the new engine and sell it on ebay. then just put your fuel injection stuff on the new engine. it 'll work just fine. you will definitly have yto switch oil pazns like todd e said. to put the 22r in your truck you would have to switch the entire wiring harness even under the dash. hope this helps.

Don't forget about the fuel tank 
The EFI uses a ~40psi fuel pump in the tank, the carb uses a ~4psi pump on the side of the motor.
Gas tank swap too
Swap the intakes, you'll thank yourself later

switch intake
yeah i forgot about the gas tank. switching the intake will take a hour probably. putting the 22r in and switching all the other stuff you will have to will take all weekend
if you don't just switch the intake you'll be doing alot of this
hopfully he got a 85 and newer 22r and not a 84 and older one. not sure if newer efi stuff will fit on the older style 22r's. they did make celica's with fuel injection or carb in 1982 so it mite work.

What about the knock sensor.. I don't think the carbed motors used them did they?? I know there is a spot you can drill and tap for the knock sensor... Make sure you have that.. You do need it

85 efi trucks and 4 runners had the knock sensor. it's rite buy the oil filter. just noticed it on the 85 sr5 4 runner i got to fix up. it needs a engine bad rod knock. i got a engine from a 85 truck with a carb. is the hole there just plugged or do you have to drill it? does anyone know from this from working on there truck or 4runner.
