So I am currently trying to sell my 1998 Tacoma with 166k on the 2.7 4cylinder engine. Truck runs and drives great, burns minimal oil and I have always assumed the drive train was strong.

Some guy just came by and after I started it up he took the oil cap off and put his hand over it. He got a few drops of oil on his hand then looked disgusted. He did this a bunch of times then said that the blow by was too much.

Anyways, it has 166, so obviously the rings are going to be a little worn. Is that the cause of blow by? What's too much? I just want to know more about this. What's acceptable? is this engine on its way out? Is this guy paranoid? I've search around the web and most of the blow by threads I have found are for diesels. Seems to me even with a new engine that there would be oil up there and a little would shoot out because there is oil in the head. Although I did check this on my 79 with a recent rebuild and there wasn't any.
