Block heater questions...and good write-up?
So, 99 taco 2.7
I have searched here and over on TTORA about the install of the Toyota block heaters. I have decided that I will go OEM for fitment and they aren't too bad for price. (About $60)
I have read that you need to punch out a freeze plug (one of the ones next to the oil filter seem to be a popular choice?) and use that obviously.
The thing I have read though is that they seem to leak. I have also read that you want to use sealers etc to keep them from leaking in the future. I live in MT where it can get <-20 F, but it's only for about a week over the winter. I just wouldn't mind having one to make things a bit easier on my engine.
So, does anyone have a good write-up w/ pics or know where to find one? Is there good advice to sealing these so I don't leak any coolant? Once installed, I don't ever plan on removing it, as it is just an added benefit. Has anyone done this on my year and can offer any advice, or just general advice?
*I have never so far had an issue with the truck starting in this weather. It has been slow to turn over sometimes, but it has always started in my 6 years of MT winters...

I had to install one on my 3.4, it got to -20 for a while, I had some COOOOLD starts. wouldn't pick up oil. had to use a oil dipstick heater, to get it to start in the mornings. I say the benefit would out way the head ache of putting it in. Super long screw driver and a hammer to knock out the freeze plug. ( once I had a diesel heater and plastic under the front of the truck.. didn't do anything to warm it up.) Oh, mine is by the oil filter. did mine with the motor out. They do make ones that go inline with your radator hose, super easy to install. but, block would be better.
