Do such a wheel exist? I've seen them and all of them are polished (not my cup of tea) i dont really care if they're real beadlocks or faux.

All those that I've seen (unless custom) are faux.... Made by American racing... but those new Teflon coated wheels they have are pretty freakin' cool...

thanks i saw that post i can't imagine how much that ish runs be cool to pick up a set of the wheelers black alloy wheels and then have it done.

I'm gonna be doing some testing with a few rims in the near future, one will be beadblasted and black annodized and the other I'll Teflon coat, both will be beadlocked of course.... Personally I think the annodizing will look the best, I have a friend that does it for a living, so I'll see how much it'll cost. By beadblasting the rims, it'll have a satin finish.

cool keep us updated...have you thought about shot peened finish on the wheel? i think that's the same as bead blasting...not sure but the finish is really nice

on a sidenote i noticed this on a silverado this morning...going to check on fitment for the tacomas


Now just need to get it painted black []

BruceTS How did you make those beadlocks? and what size rims are those in width?
Could I do something like that to my 15x7 alloys off a late 80's early 90's truck?

Stock was 16x7 but after the beadlock it's 16x8 (from what he's told me).

I wouldn't see why not. I'm not sure if you'd like to ship your wheeels out to cali but I'm sure there's gotta be local shops that beadlocks wheels in your area that might be able to give you a hand.

I believe the new batch of Weld forged fakie locks can be had in black wheel with a silver ring. There was an article in one of the mags where they put a coilover conversion on a Tahoe or Yukon and it had them... I really like that look - the wheels, not the Yukahoe.

They can beadlock most any rim,. Usually they'll machine down the outer ring, before installing the beadlock ring, but since I wanted to make the rim wider, they simply cleaned up the outer ring and welded directly to it, giving me the needed width. Actual width is more like 16 x 8+. I carried a torque wrench around in my rig for the first few months, but none of the bolts ever came loose, even dragging against the rocks didn't tear any out yet.

Just thought I'd toss this into the mix - you guys all need to realise that real beadlocks are illegal on the highway. The reason for it is they are considered unsafe. The reason they are declared unsafe for highway use is just what BruceTS said above - they machine away a part of the FMVSS mandated and DOT approved rim thickness to install the locks.

Some people argue that the result is stronger than the original, the counter argument is that it depends on how well it was done and how well it's maintained, and that of course can't be regulated and enforced. Hence, not legal. So be aware, if a cop is knowledgeable enough to spot real locks you might get a ticket. (MY guess would be more likely fake locks would get you a ticket because of a half-knowledgeable cop....)
