Another post got me to thinking. I bought a '93 4Runner recently so I could have a 4 door vehicle to do the family thing. I paid $5200 + an absurd dealer handling and added profit fee. I hunted for months and finally found one I wanted and had the happy coincidence of having cash in hand to simply pay cash and not have to deal with the financing B.S.
What is only slightly bizarre in my case, is that I had the cash on hand because I had only shortly beforehand sold 150 Hot Wheels cars out of my collection for $3300. Not bad for a bunch of zamac and plastic! I kept the main part of my collection, but am considering selling it off to help pay for another LC motor and some odds and ends.
So, in the end, my 4Runner may well wind up costing me about $2700 in cash and about 700-800 Hot Wheels LOL!
How about some stories of the oddball ways you came up with a truck/mods?

I haven't done anything like that to get my mods. I don't think I have any collector items worth that much money.

Actually, the oldest one was probably only about 9yrs old. They were a specific type of oddity that a number of different people collect. I had a friendly nemesis on eBay that was a bigger idiot than I was about them and when I told him I was quitting he wasn't going to let them go to anybody else and had the $ to make sure they didn't.
What I have left includes some pretty rare stuff, international variations, prototypes/preproduction pieces and odds and ends and a bunch of commons, but I won't get anywhere near out of them what I got out of the others unfortunately. But, who knows, maybe I'll find another psycho with deep pockets LOL!

I got a bud who is selling some stuff he got from his mother who lives in California and is afraid it will all get broken in an earthquake anyway, little ceramic figurines. I don't remember the name, but they are like Precious Moments and from pre WWII. He has about 50 of them and most of them go for around $5000 on Ebay and such. I'll let you do the math on that mod money! I about had a heart attack when he told me what they were worth! All I need to do is just borrow one, yeah, that's it, borrow one.

I do have a bunch of complete sets of baseball cards from the mid to late 80s that I'm sure are worth some cash since they are brand new in the boxes and have never been handled, but those are for my boys to have when they get older.

oooooh, that reminds me, I have a TON of BB cards from the mid and late 80's at my parents. I know I have a Mark McGwire rookie in there as well as a bunch of other big names. I'll have to pull them out and see what they're going for on eBay...

if not, ive got some that are at least 8 to 12 yrs old.
