bilstein shock/strut package
i saw this on ebay, and im in the process of making a decision on what shocks/struts to go with, and the price on these seems pretty decent. would these work on our 3rd gen 4runners w/ the eye-stud adapters? how come tacomas have different R/L shocks?

Where can you get those eye ends for the rear?
I saw the Bilstein HD's (blue/yellow) on eBay for $275, this seems like a great deal for these 5100s. Would the fronts be strictly bolt on?

Ok, someone tell me why I shouldn't get these shocks and that eye end converter.
I have been researching a lift for months now, lurking the forums. Decided on OME 881/891 with either OME shocks or the much less expensive Bilstein HDs. But seeing the 5100s for this cheap makes me want to get them instead. Does anyone see why this set up wouldn't work?

im looking for that exact answer also, which is why i made this thread. it seems like a great deal if you ask me. save a good 100 bucks. i want confirmation that this WILL work. ive been thinking about OME all the way around also, but if these 5100's will fit, ill def get these instead.

The worst case scenario if you do the eye to stud shock is that your shock is going to be too long and your drive shaft is gonna start eating your gas tank skid, but if you just pound that area with a sledge hammer or cut it off you'll be fine.
If your against doing that you may not wanna wheel. Your undercarriage will get some personality to it
The taco struts and your 4runner top out plate will work.
Also I may have some ome 891's for sale in a few months

im guessing the fronts will work, as the 4runner/tacoma setup is the same. i have two questions though.
1. With my current 881/topout setup, to keep the lift the same, would i assemble at "stock" height and use the springs/topouts on these struts?
2. What is the compressed/extended length of these shocks, and what is optimal for the 4runners. i know if shocks are too long on the 4runners springs can unseat, and the driveshaft can also contact the fuel tank. would extended brake lines or the ebrake bracket be needed?

2. Mine are 21.54 expanded and 13.58 collapsed and the way I have them mounted my ome 891's do not unseat. I am going to be lengthening and beefing up my links and will either run my 891's or some fj80 coils.
This is how much flex i get in the rear with my setup.

The only thing holding me back from ordering is any issue that arises with switching from stud mount to eye mount in the rear. Awaiting feedback from Crolison...

No binding that I am aware of, as stated before the only thing that makes contact is dshaft and gas tank.
I would go with the 255/70 valving which is the heavier valving which i am using right now.
I am using 891's in the rear and it works nicely

Well it seems the rear shocks in the auction posted by hilo are too short for a 3" lift. So I found that the guy sells the struts seperate. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...49#ht_1974wt_0
I'm pretty sure this is what I want to run up front with OME881.
For the rear I'm torn between 7 coil LC springs and running some type of LC rear shock as they have the required extra length. Or converting eye to eye 5125s.
Maybe I should just be cheap and get the TrekMasters... any problem with these besides losing out on max articulation? I see that Sonoran used to package these with their system 7 lift and OME coils.
Should I forget about OME altogether and run TRD front springs? Do I need spacers to get the equivalent lift of the OME881?
OR maybe Tokico TrekMasters (green) with LC rear springs and Tundra front like bamachem...?

i dont know if theyre too short for the 3" lift. tacomas "require" new longser shocks w/ a lift, whereas 4runners dont the auction says its okay for 0-1" lift, so theyre probably around stock length, add that to the 1" of the eye-stud adapter and i THINK they should work. 4runners can use any shock w/ a lift, though you might give up some flex. trekmasters are stock length, fyi. plus, i dont want a really long shock , as crolison mentioned, itll cause your driveshaft to contact the fuel tank skids. damn, i may just go for it and find out the hard way if it doesnt work. whatever though, id probably be able to sell the setup pretty quickly if it doesnt work out.
