I've got a '99 LTD 4WD 4Runner. Where's the best spot for a magnetic Hide-a-key that is easy to get to?

At the rear inside one of the frame rails is a good spot. Also, up front on the radiator support (lower) which is hidden by the valence. I recommend a zip tie if the key is loose, but a magnetic box works good too.

I used to keep mine up under/inside the rear bumper but I’ve come to the conclusion after some a$$hole stole all of my power tools right out of my house "I’m doing a full renovation and don’t live there right now" that I just leave my truck un locked. If they want in to take some think they will get in, so I figure screw it, at least I won’t have to replace a window! I do still keep a key hidden in case I loose mine but not in case I lock it in the truck! Anyway once again my .02!~ Matt

I keep mine behind the license plate. Take one screw out place key behind the plate and line up the hole on the key with the hole on the plate and then put the screw back in.

I don't have one, but if I were to get one I would place it between the frame and the body by the rear drivers side door.

wouldn't that require a big key hole? if it's on a keychain, it'll stick out, won't it?

you can also buy a plastic key that fits right inside your wallet. im a member of so cal AAA (autoclub) and they have ads for it in their magazine.

Since I have gotten keyless entry on all my vehicles, whether factory or aftermarket, my wife nor myself have ever locked our keys in the car as it becomes virtually impossible as you become so used to locking the vehicle via the remote you don't lock it otherwise.

Only reason I can see for a spare key is if you lose the keys you have outright and then the plastic key in the wallet is the best option IMO. But on my 85 it would take (2) keys as the door and ignition are separate keys. Only time I ever carry extra keys is if I go out of town or on a trail ride, other than that I am close enough in town that I could call a family member/friend and get a spare set easy.

I've got the hidden hitch setup, so there's plenty of easily accessible, not too visible steel availble at the back of the taco.

I've never had a magnetic ox fail. keep the slider side towards the front of the truck. Hide it inside the tube frame, behind your rear bumper.

My 4Runner was supplied from the dealer with not 3, not 4, but 5 wallet keys in the glove box. We had to pay ~$8 to have tehm cut tho...

Try the front bumper where it wraps around in front of the tire. There is sort of a "shelf" that you can feel but not see inside the bumper. The magnetic box sits tight there. Not that I would put mine there...

I just lock my keys in my car and hope the cell isnt locked in there with them. I had a friend that got his car stolen and when they found it he checked the mangetic key holder and the key from it was gone. I dunno if thats what the guy used, but its a possiblity.

My dad used to do this and used a wingnut on the back so he could take it off by hand.

I keep mine in the spare tire...seems to work and you dont have to worry about it falling off

i had mine fall off and got stuck 30 minutes from home on a bike ride. i had it tucked into the shelf on the rear bumper. im gonna get a plastic one from aaa next
