I've used them on my motorcycle batteries, and my deep cycle battery for my boat. They work great, and I haven't had to buy a battery yet. I see no reason they wouldn't work, or harm a optima battery.

I have a dual battery charger on our rescue boat. I installed 2 blue tops in it cause one of the firemen cept filling the regular batteries to the top of the cells. I had to set the charger for the optima (had choice of regular lead/acid or gel battery). Slightly different final charge settings. It charges both batteries separately, priority to the starting battery.
NOTE: This charger was for boat applications and was not cheap.
