batter tie down

Right now i have m battery held down by a bungie cord from the previous owner and i dont think that is tril worthy. i have the OEM tie down but i dont know if i only have half of it. all i have is the part that goes over the top of the battery i tried putting it on but it sat too high off the battery. so if you have pics of your OEM tie down or preferably your own custom tie downs. i think i might be getting an optima battery so if you guys have a way you tie down those please post pics of that.

Thank you.

Sounds like you have a too-short battery. Easy fix is to put a spacer under the battery to raise it up high enough that the stock clamp can hold it in place. That's what I did in my '85 when I installed an Optima. I just used some 2x pressure treated lumber cut to the size of the battery, laid it in the tray and the battery on top. Then the clamp held it fine.

You could shim between the top of the battery and the bracket, but be sure to use something nonconductive. Wood isn't a good idea on top since it will absorb water, grease, etc. and become conductive. I'd recommend modifying the existing hold-down to fit, but IF your present battery is the wrong size for the vehicle, you'll run into problems when you replace it with the correct case size in the future.
