Angry Banjo, un-stuckafied

Well my pressure side power steering hose has had a leak for quite some time now. I went down to toyota last week and they practicly gave the thing away for ONLY $140 Any way now I need to get the old one off. I've put on the liquid wrench a couple times now but that crap is tight. Should I try a breaker bar or just keep spraying and wrenching till its loose?

Angry Help!!!

Hey, did you ever get it unstuck?

I finally decided to change my fuel filter today... and after 4 hours of soaking liquid wrench and pb blaster... still suck, even got a friend to help but we couldnt get the banjo bolts off Can anyone give me some advise..... PLEASE......

Ok... I have soaked it up to the point that the paint on the fuel filter is coming off!! I'm so close to getting if changed!! dont want to give up now..... please...... pretty please...... I'm sure I'm not the only one that has been through this.... :cry:

Have you tried a flare wrench? I haven't replaced mine yet, but when I do, I'm planning to use one of these to get a better bite on the nuts:

Maybe I should get one tomorrow and try again.... I even tried ice!!!!!!! (metal expands in heat and shrinks when cold) guess I was out of my mind.... didnt work.... will flare wrenches really work? you still need a normal wrench for the lower part though... the flare wrench looks like it wont fit...

Those box-end wrenchs are the only way to go- a regular crescent will round the the nut. Absolute worst-case scenario is cut the line and by the fittings to splice a new piece with the filter in. They're a bitc# to get off, I feel your pain man!

I agree with David, if you're still working on it the run out and pick up a flare nut wrench tomorrow. You can get a 5 piece set from Sears for around $20 I think.

Went shopping for flare wrenches eariler, went to pep boys and kragens.... they both didnt have the 5 piece set of metrics in stock and they were like $33! Gonna go to Sears tomorrow, thanks for all the help! What am I gonna do without Yotatech and you guys?!

I rounded off the nut on my brake line with a flare wrench. Now that one was tight. I ended up having to resort to the vise grips.

BTW, if you are going to try the ice thing, it would be a better idea for you to use heat on the nut. Just be careful because you are working around gasoline.

Vise grips have saved my a$$ a couple of times when I thought I was done for- screw that nut on the grips so that you can b-a-r-e-l-y get them to lock down, but they seem to hold well enough to break the seal.

Can anyone explain to me why I heard a lot of "use heat to get stuck n ut out?" wouldnt that just expand the bolt/nut and make it harder to get out?

Ok, the nut is very tight on the threads. When you heat the nut it will expand therefore loosening it on the threads. The threads will also heat up but they won't heat as fast as the nut will.

Um yeah, I don't think using heat on the FUEL FILTER is a wise thing to do. It may be sealed, but it's still GASOLINE that is connected to the GAS TANK. Sounds kinda darwinistic to me.

A breaker bar w/ a long cheater pipe has always worked for me. If there isn't enough room for one of those using the double wrench technique usually works too.
