Unhappy BAD rearend roar and vibration

Ok....i just got my car back from putting in a new tranny.....they also changed out the sparkplugs and have new plugwires on order......i while back...like maybe a year ago....i started to have this REALLY bad roar and vibration....i thought it was the tranny but i wasnt sure....i had both my u-joints replaced and driveshaft balanced....but it didnt fix the roar....so i still thought it was the tranny.....then my tranny case got a crack in it and had to have it replaced....when that happened i was almost sure it was the tranny making the roaring noise and vibration.....well it comes out it wasnt the trannny.....its the rearend.....is there anyway i can replace the gears in it myself fairly easily or would it be better/cheaper to just find a used rearend to change it out with???...

i have the same problem, except its not my rear end because i had it checked, as well as the universal joints and the transmission was just rebuilt, so i dont know what the problem is.

it only does it over 55 mph though

yeah it sounds nasty. for a while mine only did it when i let off the gas, but lately, it lets me let off, but starts vibrating as soon as i get on it again.

somebody said it was the brakes, somebody said it was the rear end, somebody said it was the driveshaft, somebody said it was the universal joint, and somebody said it was the transmission.

so after a while i just said forget it, nobody knows whats wrong with it, its been doing it since december and hasnt broke yet, so ill just let it be.

You can get another 3rd member fairly cheap, just figure out your gearing though. I believe it's just a bolt on swap. Try the for sale section of www.pirate4x4.com, I'm sure you can find something there. If you have factory 4.88s then it might be a little tougher to find though. Try the junkyards, yotayard and TTP have a good reputation. Try to avoid TAP recyclers.

I had this a few times before. It always were either the R&P or the diff bearings. It once locked up on me on the highway. The pinion nut had loosend due to the vibrations, so the whole pinion fell into the carrier, locking my wheels up 100%.
You can check it when you loosen your driveshaft at the flange of the diff, put the rear axle on stands and rotate the wheels. If you hear any abormal noise from inside the diff its time for a new third member....
Good luck.

A third member is a complete diff with R&P allready setup. Try a search on the net or try a local wrecking yard. If you can get one with 4.10 gears, its a bolt on swap.

$300 for one here in the for sale section: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...t=third+member

Even comes with a locker, but it's 4.30. Like I said, go search around the junkyard, and search around on www.4x4wire.com and on www.pirate4x4.com in the for sale sections. People are always selling those things, 4.10s are pretty common.
