bad experience with 4wheelparts

I was up at 4wheel parts today and I was planning on ordering an arb winch bar. But they guy said he couldn't sell me the one I wanted. Arb has 2 models the 3421010 and the 3243020. the 1010 model is 72" wide and the 3020 is 68" wide. I wanted the 72" wide one to match up with my limited flares. The reason he couldn't sell it to me was that the 1010 model is not airbag approved. Ive seen why the 3020 is airbag approved, the mounts are rippled like an accordian, designed to absorb impact. The salesman said it would be a liability to sell it. Oh well, I guess i'll have to order it online. Does anywhere have any suggestions where to buy from?

That was weird. THen why sell brush bars or push bars. They also affect the way a truck reacts to a crash (ie crumple zone). I wonder if that is a corporate directive or just that one store. Weird...

I wouldn't necessarily blame 4WP. The wonderful world we live in is clouded by people who are now sue happy. They more than likely won't sell it because of a law suit they've allready had. There's the sue happy and the cover your own ass people. I do agree that it's completely BS, inconvenient and not right that you can't buy what you want. But much like everyone else says, if you can't get what you want, go elsewhere. I know a few places that won't install suspension lifts for the risk of being sued?

x2, thats another thing he mentioned. I think it's bs. They can lift a truck for you and make it easier to roll, but they cant sell me a bumper.

Well it does make sense, if the bumper prevents the airbag from deploying and you bust your face on the steering wheel, that has bad news written all over it. I'm sure insurance companies would have a problem with that idea if you got in a wreck also. As a commercial parts provider I would either not sell that bumper or put a claim on it that says not legal for street use, it's a fair response toward sue happy America, I wouldn't hold it against them, you can simply order it from somewere else.

Yea but it doesn't make sense that they would still sell and install other products IE: Body lifts, or suspension lifts etc. knowing that they are going to be for on road use and could ultimately throw off the geometry of the vehicle. It would be an insurance nightmare if you flipped your truck, killed someone and they find out you had an aftermarket suspension lift. Somehow, I don't think there going to pay for anything. That's what I meant by places not even doing lifts. They don't want the liability. The bumper should fall into the same catagory.

In a society where you can be sued for anything at anytime........ its sounds
perfectly logical for them to have that company policy.
I'm sure it may start at the manufacturer.

Go out and try to buy a cylindrical spring for your garage door.........no big deal but no one will sell you one for the same reason. Liability.
No more tricky than changing a 4 runner strut but a little safety and thinking is invloved not to mention the right little tool.
Still..........not found in HD, True value, Ace or Lowes and foget asking to buy it from the repairman.
A 10.00 spring now costs 100.00 because the garage door guy has to install it.
Still not a Bad experience........just not what you wanted to hear.
A bad retail experience is when a salesperson highly recommends a product
because he has used it and it turns out to be junk and a lie.
Had to sick Visa on them and I got my 100.00 back

Sorry to go offtopic, but sharrack are you referring to overhead garage door springs? They sell them here by me at the depot and I bought and installed them too..
