With the help of a friend I mounted and wired my emergency light and backup lights and they work great! The backup lights are rubber housing tractor lights with 35w bulbs and the emergency light is a KC 55w Halogen and it will make the woods look like daylight or make a tailgater back off in a hurry,lol.
The backup lights light an area about 20 yards wide and 50 yards deep. No problem seeing now. They are hooked up to a relay and a separate switch on my council. There is no need to hook them to the backup switch and have them come on all the time. They are only needed in the woods or when it's really black out . The emergency light is on a relay also and a separate switch. These lights are the best mod I have done so far. Mike

So how long do you think those lights on the bottom will last?

A friend of mine mounted his there 3 years ago and they are still there and he is an oil well tender. They don't sit as low as you may think and the hitch is lower then the bottom of the lights and so is the diff. They will bottom out before the lights.
I don't do rock climbing but I do alot of mining and logging roads. Mike

I was either thinking about them bottoming out or the tires throwing rocks and sand on them all the time. what do you have to protect them for that?
Dont get me wrong they look good.

they look really good. I was thinking about mounting some auxiliary back up lights to the plastic trim piece where the rear dome light is in the cargo area. Only thing about my idea is you'd have to crack the rear window open a couple inches for them to be effective while backing up. The light thats next to your rear window, is that actually in the cab or on the outside of the window? Its hard to tell in the pic.

The light you see by the back window is a 55 w KC Halogen and it's mounted on a 8" piece of half inch pipe on the top of my tool box. That way it shines way over the tailgate and it's on a separate switch and relay.
The two tractor lights have a rubber housing and they are flexible and tuff and also water resistant. Not to worried about rocks, sand or water. If they do prove to be a problem I will mount the next ones in the bumper. As I stated above I know a guy who puts his through hell and he has Had them for over two years.
Some guy's mount them so that they will come on with the backup switch or with the switch alone. I'm not that great at wiring so I just use a switch and that's about all I will need because they are not necessary all the time. Only when it's really dark like in the woods during hunting season.
These tractor lights were to much from Napa...about $20.00 and now I found out that Walmart has them for much less and so does Harbor freight. These are 35 watt and you won't believe how bright they are. It looks like daylight when you turn them on,Lol.

i just got some cheap $10.00 ones from harbor freight, i could care less if they break. i mounted them on each side of my hitch. i've covered these in mud, and they still work. their not that great, but they are small, and it helps some. i probably just need to adjust them.

I have the same lights and plan to wire them up this week if time allows.

I'm trying to decide where to tap into the stock back up wires. I want to choose between On -0ff- Reverse so I don't want to run a tapped wire from the tail light assembly all the way to the dash, then back to the tail light if I can help it.

Anyone have suggestions?

i ran it to a switch im not sure the factory wiring could handle them

Good to know about the harbor freight lights. Maybe thats why they were so much cheaper. These are 4" and as stated above the lighting is unreal.

Erich, I like your lights and a friend of mine bought some like that and he is going to mount them in his bumper.There are several articles about wiring them the way you want to. If I can find them again I'll post the link for you. Mike

Run it to a relay, that's what I did for mine and tapped into the factory back up wiring and have it fused.

I have pretty much the same thing. They are just rubber-backed tractor lights. Trail-Gear sells them as rock lights, and I bought two from him. They were only like $8/each... Bought a relay and some wire and that was it. I dig them, they are 55w I believe. I've had them for over a year now and no problems.

Lights are looking good guys! Here is the best wiring diagrams I have seen. It was just more than this dumb hill-billy wanted to get into. It really is a great way to wire them though.Mike

So I know this is a kind of old thread, but I mounted up my light in the one spot they'd fit. They work great, but I'm afraid of that first off camber climb and ripping them off. With the XCab, dragging the bed is common. I've dug the receiver in pretty well twice now, but the light have survived. I don't know where to mount them. They're too tall for on op of the bumper, the middle of the bumper is too thick. So I dunno..

Best mounting option would be in the tailgate of course, and several years ago in the Delphi forum somebody posted a write-up, but I can't even find the Toyota section there anymore. Probably was discontinued.

Mounting them on top of the bumper don't work so good 'cause you hafta mount them outside the tailgate area and IMO it looks pretty hoaky.

So far I have had no problems with these lights and I have been in some really rough areas including deep water. As mentioned before I don't do the rock climbing thing as some of you do and that may be a problem for lights mounted like mine. So far they have been great and people can't get over how bright they are and how great they light up the area in the back woods at night or when someone is broke down and needs a little extra light.
