Back spacing on a 3rd gen
This question has probably been asked before, and I have used the search function, but I'm think of getting new rims and want to be sure of the correct back spacing.
I have stock 16 x 7 Toyota rims on my 3rd gen and I love the look of the Mickey Thompson Classic II's.
So if I was getting 16 x 8 in the new rims, what backspacing should I get. The rig is stock height etc, at the moment. But I'm thinking of getting the RB 2" bodylift.
If I keep the stock height, what tire size can I go up to without rubbing (currently have 265/70's)
Sorry for all the q's but hopefully I'll get some definate answers!!
Cheers Guys

I had the same dilemma when getting the Classic II's. In fact, you probably came across some of my posts about this.
Basically, they come in two choices as you're probably seeing: 4 9/16" and 3 5/8". The problem with 4 9/16" back spacing is that they won't clear the brake calipers in the front. The problem with 3 5/8" is that you will have to do quite a bit of trimming and what not if you go off-road. If you don't go off-road and don't stuff your front tires, then the 3 5/8" would probably be optimal.
I didn't want to put up with the additional trimming the 3 5/8" would require so I opted for the 4 9/16". I had custom 1/4" spacers made and all is working out nicely, though they do rub more than the 7" wheels. I've got to start beating the heck out of my wheel wells now.
The tallest tire you can go without lifting would be 265/75/16.
The answer to the subject line is that the OEM 3rd Gen wheels have 4 3/8" back spacing.
Now go and order those things!

Thanks Darren
Just looked through your site... wow nice rig man!
Your rig is an image I would like to see for mine, but I don't think I will be as hardcore.
My vision for my rig is the MT Classic II's with bigger tires. A 2" rb body lift, and a Surco rack. So over the next few months I'll will hopefully adding the stuff.
The 3 5/8" BS would probably suit me as I don't intend to do any major offroading and might not go as big as the 285's. So would 275/70/16's with the 2" lift suit the 3 5/8" 16 x 8 MT classics?

285s
I have a 2" RB body lift and 285/75/R16s on 16x8 rims and I rub slightly on full turn. I am going to add the SAWS up front with some OMEs in the rear and that should take care of that.
Hope this helps.
