Just finished the write-up for the B&M Tacoma/4Runner short shifter kit, check it out HERE

I made a nifty little diagram showing how it works too...

I don't know of any nationwide distibutors for B&M so try this place I found on Google...

http://www.martelbrothers.com/custom...at=1297&page=1

you might look around more and find a better deal though, not sure.

To the best of my knowledge, these are only available for the Tacoma's. They do make it for both 2/4wd and 4/6 cyl though...

Come to think of it though, I think LC engineering makes one for the older trucks.

Only for the Tacos.. Damn and I really wanted one for the Runner. Maybe some day. Hurst and or B&M need to make one for the Runners.

I think the Taco and 4Runner share the same tranny, so it should work for us too!

Cool, nice write-up. Now you just need to get the twin stick kit from Marlin and you'll have a whole new shifting setup.

You are correct, it will work for 3rd gen 5-speed 4Runners, they use the same tranny's as Taco's.

We plan to install a twin-stick in the red Taco eventually, probably once we install a crawl-box...

After driving with this B&M shifter, it makes me want to swap a 5-speed into my Runner! Auto's can get so boring...

i know they all use the same shifter seat but i think the base of the shifter may be different between models. i wouldn't mind a short shifter for my truck

thats pretty cool, i never would have guessed that B&M made anything for toyotas.

I was thinking about the twin stick the other day and i came to the conclusion that it wouldnt be really worth it unless you had a locker in the front. Or am i wrong?

I have read lots of people that either liked them or had troubles with noises and such. What do you think of it so far?

yea i started that other thread and cant decide on which one i want. the marin crawler one is cheaper but you have to send in your old shifter to be modified.

FYI MarlinCrawler also sells short throw shifters for most models. I know of a few that are in Taco's.

and i believe they are only $100

Wondering if folks would be interested in the B&M style shifter for the '95 and earlier transmissions? I'm looking at making a kit similar to what I make for the transfer case shifter:
http://www.4Crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...wShifter.shtml
for the transmission. Basically would start with the B&M Tacoma shift kit and then would use a different spacer plate to fit the different trannys. Would be looking at about $60-90 on top of the B&M shifter.
I've been running the short throw t-case shifter for over 6 years now with no problems at all. Its a very reliable system and has the benefit of being able to revert to stock and/o move it to another vehicle if desired.
