A 4Runner is coil sprung and a pick-up is leafs.

However, You could just change out the third member. I'm pretty sure they're the same.

IF they both have the same engine. The V6 thirds are different from the 4cyls.

So what role does the third member play...if I'm getting the rear axle for the 4.56 gearing(would rather switch the whole thing then tear into it to switch the gears), cause my truck has 4.10 gearing and it's just not working out.

The third member contains the gears that drives your truck. The driveshaft attaches to it, and the axle shafts connect to it, which in turn are connected to your wheels.

All you do is unbolt the drums/axles at the end of the axles, undo the brake lines, slide the axles out, remove the 12mm bolts that hold the 3rd member in, pull it out, put new one in, installation is the reverse of the removal.

But if you have to ask what a 3rd member is, me thinks you will want to take it to a shop and have it done.

Also, master shake, if you have a 4wd truck you will also need to swap the front differential as well. It's a little bit harder, but still no big deal.
