Smile Automatic to 5-Speed Manual Conversion

I am REALLY interested in doing this.

I believe it should be a mostly bolt on conversion, but I would definitely need help from you gurus.

-Manual Tranny
-Manual T-case
-Clutch assembly (what would this include? I'm dumb when it comes to the parts of a clutch)
-Clutch Pedal

Anyone done this? Any links?

I don't want to sell mine for a new Runner, I want to keep mine, but put a 5 speed in it.

If you could do it on a third gen my hat would be off to you, I say go for it! But plan on it being a lot of work!

My friend did it on a Nissan 240sx and it was fairly labor intensive to say the least and that was only with rear wheel drive. Might be better off to look for the right truck...

double check your wiring (like jumpers for the a/t neutral switch and the clutch interlock switch).
should be a bunch of forums on this. measure and measure again (from a factory M/T truck if you can) for the shifter hole in the floorboard. and cutting the carpet.
also parts-clutch mast cyl., lines,

I do live in Tulsa, how bout all this rain?

I'll look at those threads.

I realize it will be lots of work, but hopefully its something I can accomplish.

I have put too much crap on this car to sell it for a 5speed.

You might still be money ahead if you sell it. Not sure what you have done since your sig says stock 'cept running boards pulled but, I'd look for one already manual. Thats what I did. They are hard to find loaded with 5sp but they're out there and they're worth the wait for the gas milage and acceleration.

I looked on some sites and the closest one I could find with what I'd want is ~500 miles.

I have a custom bumper that involved a lot of time, and I cut into the stock bumper to make it fit, I also have new tires and have a whole audio system.

Its not that much, I guess I could try and see if the dealership would consider a direct trade and I drive there and get it, basically switch cars, lol.

Do you think thats plausible?

can you put the audio back to stock at all? I think they'd absolutely trade as long as it looks like it can be retailed. The closer to stock it looks, the better they can appeal to a mass audience of buyers. Where are you located?

Call the dealer and email them some photos of it stock. What do your wheels look like compared to the one they have? What year is theirs? Do you have a link?

You should see what advantages yours has over the one they are selling. Year/lmited model/miles..etc

Are the ECU's even the same? Usually cars have a completely different ECU for manual vs auto.

My son and I did this to a 94 4 runner we changed the pedal set up and drilled a hole thru the firewall to put in the clutch master cylinder in but you might have match the drive to the speedo. The main problem we are having is getting the front axle to kick in when we put it in 4wd.
