"Haha, just kidding...what do you want to know?"

How.

Looked for a write up in the tech section, couldn't find it. Taking a 8 hour road trip hauling a uhaul trailer this weekend, thought I would give the tranny a treat.

Follow the steps here http://www.amsoil.com/faqs/faq8.htm I purchased 2 cases of Synthetic ATF and ran 20 quarts through the system. Made up a measuring stick to keep track of how much pumped out versus what I poured in, had to stop twice to catch up.

My truck does NOT have a filter, but a screen that you can clean off with some brake cleaner.

Ok so I understand what the process is. I have a couple of questions though. Do you need to select all the gear positions or not? The other is what to do with the return line that is disconected from the cooler. If you are refilling thourgh the dipstick do you block the return line off somehow. If you don't block it off won't it suck air into the system or do you use the return line to refill the pan. Does the return line just empty into the pan or somewhere else. I am still not completely convinced that I can do this without f@$%ing it up. But the more information that I get the more confident I feel. Thanks for the info.

Or you could just pay the $80 to have it done on a T-Flush machine...

First I took my 5 gal bucket and a scrap piece of molding and poured in a gallon of water into the bucket, marked the stick, repeated until I had four gallons marked on the stick. Empty the bucket.

Drain the ATF from the pan and/or drop the pan and clean the magnets and screen. Fill the pan with fresh fluid.

Disconnect the output of the cooler and stick a bolt in it to keep the fluid from leaking. I placed a spare piece of hose on the fitting and into a 5 gal bucket.

Start the engine and start pouring, you will NEVER keep up with the pump. When I got a few quarts behind, I stopped the engine, filled the pan and repeat. I put 20 quarts through the system that way.

Will you get it all? NO! But you will get most of it!

Thanks that was the info I was looking for. Did you work through the gear selector on not? I don't know if that was important. And which line is the return line to the tranny? I am feeling more confident about this. Thanks again for all the info.

I did NOT run through the gears. I guess it would not hurt, but you would need two people, one watching and pouring, one behind the wheel.

On my truck, the output of the radiator ATF cooler is the driver's side. On the A/T there are two steel hoses, the front hose I believe is the ATF out to the cooler, follow that on your truck. To confirm, remove the hose and place it in a bucket. Take a piece of hose and put it on the fitting and place it in another bucket. Run the engine for a few seconds and you will know for sure which way the fluid is pumping.

Thanks for all the info. My runner has 96,000 on it and I doubt that the tranny has ever been flushed. The oil in the pan has been changed but never has the whole thing been flushed. I think I will try this after the monsoon season ends. Thanks again.
