Auto dimming rear view mirrors?

I'm very interested in getting an auto dimming mirror with compass and outside tempture display. How hard is it to install the temp. sensor along the head liner? Gentex or Donnelly? I also notice they are a little bigger then the stock mirror(9" wide X 2 3/4" high for stock ver. 10"+ high X 3"+ for the aftermarket). Any information would be appreciated.

I have the Gentex mirror without the temperature feature. As you said, it is a lot bigger than the stock mirror, it takes some patience to figure out the perfect spot for it, so it doesn't interfere with the sun visors. Also remember, these do not mount in the stock location of most 4runners, these glue to the glass. There is a little triangle as the center mark on the windshield. I removed the drivers side sun visor (3 Screws) and pushed the wire under the headliner, down the A pillar. One thing is for sure, once you drive a vehicle with an auto dimming mirror, you'll never want to go back!! These are awesome! If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me!

Where are you getting it from and how much do they want? Just curious...

I searched around and called the dealers of these aftermarket mirrors and if you are going to be paying more than $199 for the mirror/compas/temp sensor combo, don't. There are some versions that include the garage door opener option or map lights but neither of those appealed to me.

Also, there is no aftermarket kit to mount to the headliner, all will mount to windshield, so if you are going to need a new windshield soon, do that first (that's what I am doing).

I too should have a write-up on my installation on this in a month or so. I have a different dilema because I dont have a sunroof so I have to power it with a wire that is ignition controlled. The simplest solution that I see is to run your + power and temp sensor wires together down the A-pillar and then split off and run your power to an ignition controlled + and run your temp sensor out to a spot located under the front bumper (no direct sun). Although I am sure that some will have a different location to mount it.
