ARB and frame strength
I have seen quite a few posts regarding the ARB bar on tacos, and it has been said that the USA version is 1/2 ton and hence a lighter duty version than it's overseas cousin's.
Does anyone know if this applys to 2gen runners and 89-95 p/u? and if so any difference in the Frame strength?
A related question, I remember in the early 90's seeing 1 ton 2wd pickups, is the axle much different than the standard rear toy 8" ?
I was just thinking if parts were somewhat compatible a full floater retrofit might be possible. Any thoughts?

the rear end in the 1 ton is the same as the standard 8" toyota rear end.. normally they jsut have differnt gear ratios than a normal truck would have..... also it being a 4x2, its gots a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern and a spring under axle setup.. the rear ebrakes are the same as the otehr 4x2 trucks, which are differnt from the ebarake setup on the standard toyota 4x4 rear end....

I thought those were full floaters, As for disks, not sure they must have a slightly different setup than regular 1/2 tons since there are 2 wheels on each side. If it is possible to do some sort of a retrofit that would

1-ton duallies had a the full floaters... But Toyota made a lot of "1-ton" SRW's with semi-floaters...
As to the original question..
ARB mounts in 12 places on the 2nd gen 4runner, if I remember correctly. Two on each side of the body-mount, two on each "tow" point below the frame rails and two on each factory bumper mount...
The frame is pretty strong, but if you plan on doing extensive winching, I'd consider bracing the front crossmember with FRORF's re-enforcement pieces.

I was refering to the 1 ton dually, I thought those were the only 1 tons, what is a SRW?

srw is single rear wheel....
i dont know what the duallies used something wierd with huge ass lugnuts.. looks liek a ford f350 rear end.. seriously....
trust me, im right about the 1 ton though.. my neighbor has a red one... and i park my truck behind him everyday....

This thread should be renamed the 1 ton axle thread. I looked at a one ton last night and it has 6 lugs for sure, but a larger pattern, maybe a 6 or 6.5. It appears to be a full floater because of the hub looking thingy. Boy would I like to get my mits on one of those just to take apart and look at
