Does anyone have experience installing a ARB bullbar on a 90 4-runner? What tools might be needed? Any grinding or cutting of brackets or frame? Will the factory turn signals fit? Thanks

Regular ratchets and box end wrenches are needed.

The bolts that go straight into the frame from the front are somewhat hard to get to, but if you have a ratcheting box end, then it is slim enough to get in there and work without pulling off the bolt head.

I had to hog out some of the holes on mine so that I could line them up with the holes on the frame.

The turn signals will fit, one screw goes in from the front, one from the back.

Doesn't get much easier. It is helpful to have someone to balance it while someone else starts the bolts, but if you are one with the force, you can do it alone.

Thanks guys, I'm driving it to Tulsa for Outdoorfever and installing it on his 90 4-runner and did'nt want to have any supprises on the road without all my tools.

Corey did you ever look under your rig to see why you don't have bolts in those holes most under the engine by the skid plate in this picture

I'll get under there someday and look at it real close, and also find my box of left over install stuff from the bumper.

Also Corey someone on another forum said that something had to be removed first before installing the bar and that it wasn't in the instructions anywhere. What's that all about?

On my '86 I had to cut the stock bumper mounts off. I assume you'd have to do the same on the Runner.

Yes, it was Josh who use to have a 2nd gen, and now he owns a TJ Jeep.

There is a hidden plate or two under there that must be removed prior, or the bumper won't slide into the channels underneath.

This does not apply to all 2nd gen 4Runners, only certain years, and mine was one of them.

I do not have pictures underneath to show you.
I have the parts in a box somewhere, but that somewhere eludes me right now or I'd get you pics of the parts.

Oh I hadn't heard anything about that, what did you use to do that? So now you can't go back to your stock bumper without welding those back on?

They were bolted on.
Piece of cake if I wanna go back to stock.
In fact those two parts are not even needed.

I think I can say for him it went well, there was one tow hook bolt hole that was messed up and needs to have a tap run into it to clean the threads up. But there were 15 other bolts holding in on, so as long as he doesn't hit a deer or something it will do untill that bolt can be put in.

Yep pretty solid. I wouldn't want to be the deer that steps in front of that at 60 mph!

We didn't have to grind anything. A few bolts were hard to get lined up at first. There was some foam stuff that we had to push out of the way on top of the frame cross member, I don't know what that's for but it was in the way. And we had those two bolt-on pieces at the bottom of the frame that had to come off.

hey almbp and dale, yea its awesome. thanks for asking and thanks again to dale that help me put it on. its gotten muddy already it really adds to the 4runner. i love it. and btw, how do i resize pictures. it sucks not being able to show her off . thank ya

The photo software that came with my sony camera (Pixela Imagemixer) has an edit mode that will let me resize and many other things. I'll let you borrow (read copy and use) mine sometime if you want.
