Anyone running Hankook MT 295/75/16's on stock wheels?

Question Anyone running Hankook MT 295/75/16's on stock wheels?

I just picked up a new set of Hankook M/T 295/75/16 for my '02 Sport and plan on putting them on after I install a SS 1.2 lift.

Has anyone on the board run this size tire, on stockers, with a similar lift? If so, did you run into any fitment issues? Also would you suggest picking up a set of wheel spacers (1/4"-1") or installing a body lift (1"-1 1/2") just to be safe?

I Believe your stock 16 inch wheels are 7 inchs wide, and that tire(which is about a 33x12.50) is not a good idea to put on stock rims. You need atleast a 8 inch wide rim for the bead to seat right. I am running 33x12.50 MTR's with SS 1.2 in the rear and sway-a-way coils and camburg uppers in the front. I rubbed really bad at first. Then I took a hammer to pinch welds, took off bumpers, and all the plastic fender/inner fender well bs out and its all good. I dont like spacers for two reasons, they will mostly likely just change where you rub on your tire, and they put more pressure on your wheel bearings.

Thanks for the input cp! This tire actually works out to be a 33x11.50, so I'll wind up with a little more wiggle room then your 12.50's.

On the other hand, I didn't even think check that my stock wheels might be too narrow...doh! It looks like Hankook recommends a rim width of 7.5-9 for these. Will half an inch difference cause problems?

Yes, the aspect ratio comes out to be 11.50 wide.

I ran 285/75/16's with stock wheels. They are fine.

Except I was always under the impression these were actually considered more like 34's...

You'll probably need to do some trimming or body lift.

There are many members on this board running 305s on stockers with no problems, and even a handful of them (RooRRunner) running 315s on stock wheels. The two reasons you posted for not liking wheel spacers apply to purchasing wheels with less backspacing too.

I just put a 3'' ome lift on my 99 and with stock wheels and a set of 285's you cant even spin the wheel they are rubbing so hard on the upper arm.

If you want to know the actual height of the tire you should actually do the calculations or find a site that has the formula built in. like this http://www.bncoffroad.com/ratio/
I do realize that this does not directly answer any part of your query but it may provide some more accurate tire sizing info which is always nice.

My 285's would rub my UCA on my drivers side, had to run 1/4 wheel spacers to prevent it til I could afford new rims on my old tacoma. my T4R now is running 16x8 wheels now and no problems. and yah a 295 would be slight taller than a 33x11.50 tire depends on what kind with tread depth.

295/75/16's don't fit...

Well I finally got my lift put on (SS 1.2 + 1" BL) and wouldn't you know it I'm hitting the upper a-arms It looks like I'll need at least a half an inch of clearance to get my tire's on.

I'm leaning towards getting a set of Camburg Upper A-Arms. Does anyone know how much clearance I'll gain by going with these over the stock arms?

SS has those ground down UCA's might be cheaper than Camburg UCA's. prob more room too. I have some Camburg ones, need to get off my bum and install them. if I get to it anytime soon, I'll take a pic for you

Thanks SnowRunner, I picked up a set of used A-arms and took them to my local fab shop today. It looks like shaving down the stock arms will save me about an inch which should give me more than enough room. Plus it'll wind up costing me about $200 less than a set of Camburgs. Woohoo!!!
