Anyone own a Bauer (BVG) Roof Basket?
I have a chance to get a real good deal on a Bauer basket. Only thing is, I don't think they make any kind of locking bracket (like Yakima makes) to lock the basket to the roof rack.
I called sports rack and was told that the yakima bracket would not work with the Bauer rack. Anyone have any other suggestions? Security is an issue for me, as I don't have much room to store it when its not on the 4R, and since my mountain bike was recently stolen I'm a bit leery about just leaving it up there unprotected.
For that matter, can you lock a Surco basket to the rack either?

You mean this, right Tom?
So there is no way that you could make this type of lock work?
If its a good deal, I would get it. When you say good deal, how much are you talking about?
Load baskets are awesome, I want one too. I am sure you could rig up some type of locking mechanism.

I have a BVG basket on my truck. It is such a PITA to take off that no will steal it. I took off the plastic knobs and just used nylon lock nuts on the "U-bolts" (well they are not U bolts actually) to secure mine.

Christian,
$100 is the asking price. Sounds like its in near perfect shape. The guy at Sports Rack said yakima locks will only work on Yakima racks. I've never seen either one up close, so I'm not sure if I could get it to work or not.
Rome,
Thanks for the info. I didn't know that it was such a PITA to get the rack on and off!

$100! Dude, I would go for that. Especially if it mounts to the existing factory rails. Like you, I would quickly get some type of locking device up there. I dont care how hard it is to get off!

Tom,
Thule makes a universal mount too. I would just go down to the REI store and check it out. If you call thule, they're gonna say it wont work b/c their driven to sell their own products and cover their butts should something not work w/ their uni mount/lock and your Bauer basket.

The Thule locking device will likely fit since Thule used to market the same exact rack under the Thule name before they came out with the Thule Playpen. FYI...
